15. Actually stray voltage
can ignite the squibs. Flying through the air can pick up quite a bit of eddy currents. But who knows? maybe the dude just hit the "pickle" as he was stroking it.

14. They have explosives in them
more to identify when they hit a target than for percussive force.

7. Concrete dud?
I don't think they practice with live bombs. Probably just put a really big hole in the roof. Hopefully nobody was underneath it inside.

12. Good thing it wasn't "accidentally" loaded with nuclear weapons
But, hey, our military would never, ever fuck up like that, right?

(No, they wouldn't because of a little thing called chain of command.)

13. Stuff like that happens in that area
more often than than you would think. we had an aircraft jettison a canopy un-commanded at 30000 feet over VA Beach. It laded somewhere close to lynnehaven mall. Landed in a guys back yard.

<snip>
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Navy said a small, inert training bomb fell Tuesday from an F/A-18C Hornet fighter jet that was heading to Oceana Naval Air Station. No one was hurt.

The Navy said in a statement that the bomb hit a wall adjacent to a warehouse in the resort city of Virginia Beach. Minimal damage was reported.

The aircraft was returning to Oceana following a training mission at the Navy's bombing range in Dare County, N.C., when it dropped the bomb. The jet landed safely at Oceana.
