Republican Sex Scandals Dwarf Those of Democrats
http://www.salem-news.com/articles/october172007/repub_scandals_10_17_07.php

The sexual antics of President Bill Clinton have been a dangerous tool in the Republican campaign arsenal, used to the fullest possible extent, but what have they been up to all these years?

(SALEM, Ore.) - "He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones." It seems that old adage may be lost on the confused mass that we call modern society. The Grand Old Party, once known for controversial abolitionists, has become the moral party of today, or so their elected leaders will tell you.

As we evolve as a nation, too many people seem to be clinging to ideologies that make little sense, fighting against a woman's right to abortion while demanding that schools not teach children sex education or instruct them in the deadly virus, AIDS. It creates a vicious circle when we fight ourselves, and deny education to those who need it most.

Our nation spent more tax money conducting Ken Starr's investigation of President Bill Clinton's affair with intern Monica Lewinsky, than they did in the investigation of the September 11th 2001 attacks on the United States. Many Americans fail to see the logic behind this.

Now Oregon's Governor stands at risk, as a right wing radio pundit named Lars Larson levels an accusation against Kulongoski that could mean he could not be a lawyer in Oregon again. Larson says that Kulongoski had the goods on Goldschmidt years ago. Sources are reporting that he could have known about what has become known as the Goldschmidt scandal, as early as 1994.

Kulongoski walked angrily out of a press conference Tuesday, after a TV reporter asked him about the former governor's involvement with the teenage babysitter.

1. Glad to see this discussed in the corporate media
Even though the focus in this article is upon Oregon, lots of national Repugnicans get mentioned. I'd like to see more revelations of this type plastered across front pages all over the country.

3. The Armchair Subversive has a more comprehensive list

Truly staggering when all the perverts and adulterers in the 'party of values' are congregated in one location. If stories get any media coverage at all, they're typically treated as isolated incidents, but this comprehensive list hints at a systemic problem. The corporate media still haven't delved into the page scandal that could have derailed the 'conservative movement' back in 1982.

5. Power entrenchment
brings out the worst and the GOP was already bad. So bad that taking the extra steps of arrogant impunity meant they did not know they could even get caught and held to account. It makes the drunks and womanizers of old on the old Dem committees look charming and quaint. Then they keep recruiting WORSE people to be their peers and the next generation. Success has ruined the GOP toga party.

7. The local news went after the Sheriff involved in this last night...
http://blog.oregonlive.com/breakingnews/2007/10/report_giusto_admits_passing_a.html

Larson has been trying to drag Kulongoski into this too, but so far he hasn't had any luck.

12. They aren't nearly as well funded as the RW horde of reporters
I mean, you listed some great reporters.

But, their side has:
The NY Post (Murdoch)

The NY Daily News (not as far right as the Post)

The Washington Times (Moon)

The Scaife chain of newspapers (Pittsburgh)

The huge Tribune company chain of newspapers (formerly run by RWer Conrad Black)

Moon loses $100 million a year on his paper and has been doing that for 25 years or so now. That money buys a lot of reporters. I'm guessing the combined revenues for Salon, the Nation, Digby, TPM, etc are less than the amount Moon loses each year.

10. Still a "partial list", but a good one!

Can't forget Congressman Duke Cunningham. Though he's had plenty more that got him sentenced to prison, he also got involved in quite a bit of debauchery with folks in the hookergate scandal (which should also include a number of others here like Porter Goss, Dusty Foggo, Brent Wilkes, etc.). He's also rumored to have been a closeted gay too.

Also, Congressman Dave Dreier, who was another closeted gay who went after gays...
