Comet Holmes is visible tonight.
Just saw comet Holmes. It is almost directly overhead. It is a fuzzy ball with a bright center. It is visible with the naked eye in dark areas. Binocs will give you a good view of this comet. I am in Lexington Ky, it is midnight plus a few minutes. Use Cassiopeia as a guide.

Here's a map:

And a gif of Holmes showing relative size.

1. too cool!
We're headed out in a bit to take the dogs for their nightly stroll. We kinda got sidetracked watching "Bound for Glory". We'll look for the comet.

And, yes. I'm still folding. I need to redo my sig line to re-add the folding info.

2. Thanks for folding. This comet is a ball, there is no tail.
BTW, I got a new computer and the two weeks it used to take to complete a WU, is now 3 to 4 days.

3. Same here
The transformer nearby blew and frugged up my computer. We got a cheap laptop as a replacement. It's not as fast as yours but those 250 WU are going a lot faster these days.

fwiw, I'm in the process of salvaging the old drives and we may be able to put it back into action soon.

7. Now that I can't carry a telescope anymore, Binoc and comets are
my thing.

I'd love to find some big assed binocs. I have some 15X63 right now. Some 25X100's would be perfect.

6. Mods: Can't I please recommend this twice, just this time?
First, for such great directions on how to see the comet, and that they're on DU, and that they come from Kentucky?

Second, because I clicked on the OP thinking it was about Dick Morris jumping the shark on Hannity and Colmes when Morris played the right-wing indignation hissyfit defense and shorted it out in reaction to Colmes bringing up Morris's own bogus past prognostications about Hillary, and about how Colmes defended his right to actually talk about Morris's past predictions if Morris was going to keep reading his crystal ball about her.

True stargazers, and mere fortune tellers, together in one fine confluence.

19. Thanks. Using the most recognizeable objects in the sky. I was
impressed that it was so visible even through all the light pollution from the city and the moon.

29. Thank you, thank you
After the tricksters went home we just went outside in a suburb of Minneapolis and could see it with the naked eye. Amazing. And, apparently, will be in the general area for the next several months.

We had a clear chilly evening with a lot of street lights but still managed to see it.

30. I swore off comets when Halley went bust.
I'd been waiting for Halley's Comet all my life, and then when it "showed up", it was barely visible. Broke my heart.
