MADRID, Spain: Prosecutors on Wednesday ordered the re-arrest of a man who allegedly attacked an Ecuadorean girl on a train — an assault caught on security cameras and widely broadcast on television and the Internet.
The man — identified only as Sergi Xavier M.M., 21 — was arrested Oct. 19 but later released on provisional charges of causing injury with racist motives.

Security video images from Oct. 7 showed the suspect, a tall man with short hair, coming into a train carriage and suddenly starting to punch, slap and kick a young girl. Police have said audio from the tape shows he also shouted racist insults at her.
As he attacks her, the suspect appears to be also maintaining a mobile telephone conversation. Another occupant of the near-empty carriage seems to be unaware of the aggression or chooses to ignore it.

On Tuesday, Ecuadorean government officials said lawyers had been hired to help her. The country's Foreign Ministry sent a diplomatic note to the Spanish Embassy in Quito to express the government's "most energetic protest for this xenophobic act."

Later, he changed attitude and said, "Of course I feel responsible; it was my fault. She did not deserve what I did to her."
