Tonight's full moon is biggest of the year
http://www.sun-herald.com/breakingnews.cfm?id=3728">Tonight's full moon is biggest of the year

(Last updated: October 25, 2007 11:27 AM)

The full moon tonight will appear to be much larger than usual.

It's no illusion. Tonight's moon will be the largest full moon of 2007.

That's because the moon will be closer to earth this time around than on any other orbit this year.

The moon doesn't orbit in a circle, but an ellipse that means it's never quite the same distance from earth.

In fact, tonight's orbit brings it 30,000 miles closer to earth than it is at the far extreme of its orbit.

So, when you look up Halloween night, what you'll see is a moon that is 14 percent bigger than normal

and 30 percent brighter, scientists say. And Californians will have the orangest moon they've ever

seen as seabreezes sweep massive amounts of firestorm smoke back onshore. Smoke acts as a filter

to eliminate most "cold" colors, leaving yellow, orange and reds.

This was last night's moon over San Diego.

http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071026/LIFESTYLE/710260327/1024/CUSTOMERSERVICE02">Full Hunter's Moon shines bright tonight

There's a full moon tonight and this one is called the Hunter's Moon,
but that's not why you'll have a hard time missing it. The moon will be
closer to the earth than it's been for any other fullmoon this year and
today's Hunter's Moon is the largest full moon of the year. Enjoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Despite the research about full moons, I still think people get strange
during a full moon and OH NO! The World Series - Game 2 - is tonight! :scared:
I mean, my crazy landlord came over today and i always dread him being here
and he actually wanted to exchange recipes for "pudding cake"!!! :rofl:
I shit you not!! :P Are you howling yet?? :rofl:
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 09:24 PM by Idealist Hippie
lu'na·tic n.
Online Etymology Dictionary - Cite This Source - Share This
lunatic (adj.)
c.1290, "affected with periodic insanity, dependent on the changes of the moon," from O.Fr. lunatique "insane," from L. lunaticus "moon-struck," from luna "moon." Cf. O.E. monseoc "lunatic," lit. "moon-sick;" M.H.G. lune "humor, temper, mood, whim, fancy" (Ger. Laune), from L. luna. Cf. also N.T. Gk. seleniazomai "be epileptic," from selene "moon." The noun meaning "lunatic person" is first recorded 1377. Lunatic fringe (1913) was apparently coined by U.S. politician Theodore Roosevelt. Lunatic soup (1933) was Australian slang for "alcoholic drink."
adjective
1. insane and believed to be affected by the phases of the moon
================================
Guess the idea isn't new -- the word dates back to the 12th century.
46. Used to work at an institution for the profoundly developmentally disabled
Worked in the non-amb children's ward. Lots of VERY sever physical problems besides the extreme (in some cases, nearly vegetative) mental impairments. These were not residents who would be influenced by any moon lore, believe me. They had no way to notice the moon and most did not respond to language as most of us know it.
BUT during full moon, every month, seizure activity peaked as did a lot of cyclical behavior problems. Many had physical conditions flare up during full moon.
Every damned month.
Has to be something to it, despite what the 'scientific' adherents profess. (If they routinely dismiss repeated observations, how can they really be scientists? Always wondered about that)
I just went outside, and it's starting to get a bit dark here in Kentucky, but I can't see the moon yet (might be blocked by a mountain right now). Exciting!
It's also kind of cloudy here tonight, but it might not be so bad... there is enough clear sky that we should be able to get a decent look at the moon later. The clouds might even add to the whole spooky Hunter's Moon effect!
Dark in the city night is a wire
Steam in the subway earth is afire
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
Woman you want me give me a sign
And catch my breathing even closer behind
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Smell like I sound I'm lost in a crowd.
And I'm hungry like the wolf.
Straddle the line in discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt I'm after you.
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Stalked in the forest too close to hide
I'll be upon you by the moonlight side
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
High blood Drumming on your skin it's so tight
You feel my heart I'm just a moment behind
Do do do do do do do dodo dododo dodo
In touch with the ground
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Scent and a sound. I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf.
Strut on a line it's discord and rhyme
I howl and I whine I'm after you
Mouth is alive all running inside
And I'm hungry like the wolf.
Hungry like the wolf
Hungry like the wolf
Hungry like the wolf
Burning the ground I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
I smell like I sound. I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Strut on a line it's discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt I'm after you
Mouth is alive with juices like wine
