I grew up in the 60's and marched on Washington to protest the Vietnam War. We protested against the jerkoffs( Rumsfeld, Cheney etc.) who were escalating the war. A full forty years out it was the same assholes in charge. They lie, steal and cheat whenever possible. Of course, none of them actually served in war. What followed the Vietnam war was a terrible economy with staggering inflation. Carter caught the brunt of these economic follies. We are at that same tipping point and if we win in '08 the same fate will fall on us.

1. Skeptics

like you and me my Friend, might think that it is all planned. One thing the "conservatives" running for office can depend on is the ignorance of their base who just love to vote for no apparent reason.

2. I don't think it's planned for two reasons

First, they're not smart enough to plan it. Oh, a great deal of planning has gone into bankrupting the government in order to get rid of the "tyranny" of social security checks to our old folks, but the economic woes are the result of naked, primitive greed run amok.

Never chalk up to conspiracy what can be attributed to id and incompetence.

Besides, the rich are not going to be immune. Depending on where they have stashed their money, they will get hurt, too. Some will be left as destitute as the rest of us. It happened in the last Great Depression and it will happen if we're headed for another one.

3. The GOP master plan in all its simplicity

Tell the unwashed masses:

- Government does not work, put us in charge and we will prove it.

4. Exactly. People who think there is some evil sinister force controlling events,...

...(a notion known as the "Conspiracy-based Theory of Society") don't understand that it is impossible for a cabal to control events for too long before the law of unintended consequences brings the cabal's plans down. Command economies and utopian social engineering doesn't work well for the same reason.
