Processed food additives and pharmaceuticals: A question

I was just think about the garbage in processed food in combination with our nation's ever increasing reliance on pharmaceuticals to cure our ills and shape our bodies. Does anyone know if there has been a study done to get at the combined effects of medicines (prescription and/or OTC) and food additives (not sure if that is the right word here) in processed foods? Is it possible to measure this?

Stuff like Equal, Splenda, and MSG fall into this category. I'm convinced that I have MS now because of these substances, and I now caution all my friends (whether they want to hear it or not) to STOP DRINKING DIET COKE!

Nobody should have to deal with this crap. And the number of cases of MS has skyrocketed since the 80s when Nutrasweet was approved. Especially among young women. Who drinks the majority of Diet sodas? That's right...young women in our 30s and 40s who drank loads of that stuff when it came out.

I try to avoid all of this stuff, but even so, it's not so easy.
