Chaney's company Halliburton third-quarter profit surges 19 percent
http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSN2134555820071022

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Oil services company Halliburton Co (HAL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Sunday said third-quarter net profit rose 19 percent, helped by a tax benefit, new international contracts and higher activity from its customers.

Halliburton, which earlier this year opened a headquarters in Dubai to capture contracts in faster-growing, more profitable Eastern Hemisphere markets, has been hit by pricing pressure in its largest North American market.

The company reported a net profit of $727 million, or 79 cents a share, compared with $611 million, or 58 cents a share, in the same quarter a year earlier.

Results for the 2007 third quarter include a favorable income tax impact of $133 million, or 15 cents per share, and a charge of $21 million, or 2 cents per share, for reserves related to environmental matters.

1. This should surprise no except the naivest of the naive. The bloodsuckers

2. Halliburton is plundering the US treasury and reporting it as profits.
Don't you just love this "free trade" criminal capitalism? How else can you steal a country blind and call it business? When the corporate monopolies are done plundering the commonwealth, we the people will be left with only the debt.

3. Looks like getting out of the Iraq business has worked well for them.
They turned KBR back into an independent company (like it was before Halliburton bought it), so they have had very little - if anything - to do with Iraq this year.

Looks like they're doing better without it.
