I had dinner with Ray McGovern last night
Me and 16 other people. He is here in (mostly very right wing but slowly changing) Redding, California, on a speaking tour of various places in the north state.

My strongest impression is what a fine person he is. He was very low key and courteous and at the same time obviously very dedicated to his mission of raising people's awareness about the dangers we face from the Bush administration and elected Democrats who don't have the courage to stand up to them. The dinner was mostly just that--eating and chatting--but he spoke a few words after we had eaten. He directed his remarks to Chris Dodd's putting a hold on the FISA bill and to Pelosi's failure to stand up against the administration's trampling on our civil liberties. He said Dodd's action gave him reason to feel hope that there are people in Congress--he also mentioned Rep. Obey-- who would stand up for the Constitution.

He is speaking--probably to a standing room only crowd--here in Redding on Friday night. I'll fill you in on what he had to say. He did say last night that he hoped there would be Bush supporters in the audience as he doesn't want to speak only to the already converted.

1. Lucky you!
I'll bet it was quite an experience. So he agrees that the dems are not standing up? I often wonder if their excuses-that they don't have enough votes--is a legitimate excuse, or if there is more they could do procedurally.

2. Ray McGovern is a special person.
All the really upright folks are no longer working for this bunch. Period.

It's rather amazing to see the list of folks who have been fired or quit...and it's getting longer.

6. When I saw him last year,
a freeper woman in the audience tried to argue with him and he shut her down fast. It was great.
