I was, for a second, sure one of my students shot another of my students today
I had a gang inspired fight in my class today among four students (2 pairs) and eventually it got broken up (long story I can't really go into). Then one of the students got tazed in the hall and it sounded like a gun shot to me. Then a student from my class started screaming and crying why did he shoot my brother? I was, for a split second, sure she had seen a student shooting a student. I am still a bit shaky but it was so damn scary. Four long term suspensions will be the likely consequence.

3. Long term suspensions....
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 05:33 PM by hlthe2b
I've always wondered if they did any good, or might actually be a "gift" to the kids--especially with no counseling or other intervention... Given that parents in some jurisdictions can be charged for NOT sending them to school, but then they suspend? Sort of inconsistent, it seems...

12. It seems woefully inadequate in and of itself...
Why, given the propensity for violence, would the danger just not return at the end of the suspension...?

15. We had a lockdown last week.
It turned out to be nothing (just an overheard conversation about the Cleveland shootings), but it was scary nonetheless. What made it even more stressful is that I couldn't get my students to shut up during the lockdown. I kept thinking that if it were a real situation, the shooter would hear us first.

I'm glad you're safe.

17. OMG
Dumb question, but where'd the taser come from? School security or did police arrive?

Kudos to you for the work you do!!
