Gore dropped by Swatch group over fear of Presidential run
http://www.forbes.com/markets/feeds/afx/2007/10/22/afx4243939.html

ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Swatch Group's new company for renewable energies' management board will include Hollywood star George Clooney, who was selected over Nobel prize winner Al Gore, said Swatch Group chairman Nicolas Hayek in an interview with Swiss newspaper Berner Zeitung.

'Actually I hesitated between Al Gore and Clooney,' said Hayek.

But Gore -- who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his environmental campaigning efforts -- was dropped as it was feared that he could run for the US presidency.

The company will be based in Biel, and Hayek will take on the chairman post in the management board of this new company.

See Al, now you HAVE to run!!

13. to think he isn't going to run doesn't mean that we hate Gore
I would love to see him run, but I don't think he will. It is getting too late and he has said too many times he isn't going to run. I take him at his word.

4. This is a reason he *shouldn't* run.
By involving himself in the mire of American presidential politics, Gore would risk politicizing and trivializing the one thing that should not be seen as a campaign issue--the fate of the entire goddamn world.

5. the fate of the entire goddamn world - This is exactly why he should run.
You understand the magnitude of the problem.

Can't you see that if the President of the US is not leading the world on this issue, then we are in serious trouble?

6. Personally, I think our best bet
is to let Gore keep doing his Nobel-prizewinning work, and at the same time attempt to elect a Democrat who would be receptive to his message.

8. you mean Hillary....
Do you really think she is going to be receptive to Al's message?

She will calculate what efforts she has to make to stay in office and that will be it.
No real change, just enough to make a showing.

She is not going to put pressure on the Petroleum or Auto Industries. She has to much vested interest in them.
And War will continue sapping all our surplus resources and distracting us from making any real progress.

We need Gore because he will end this needless War, and put the focus on the real issue threatening Mankind and its future survival.

He is already convinced about what is going on and knows the measures we need to take to affect change.
Why should we put some middleman in office who he would just have to work through?

We need the Real Deal.

10. I don't mean Hillary in particular. I believe Obama would probably be better on that issue,

but only slightly. Hillary would be good if and only if polls showed nationwide pressure for her to act. I'm not certain how much pressure Gore could whip up.

This is exactly why she is the wrong choice.
She doesn't have the integrity to do something based on what she knows is right.
She wouldn't listen to Al.

I don't think Obama would either.
They just don't have the initiative to get the ball rolling.

Only one man can has the experience and the gravitas to do this, and he must be President for it to happen.

9. I believe Al Gore has already made the point, the cat is out of the bag,

I have no idea what else he can accomplice in the private sector that he hasn't already done regarding the looming catastrophe of global warming. The only way he can be assured that this is critical issue will be addressed in the manner it needs to be is as President of the United States; an office for he which he is supremely qualified in more ways than just global warming.

12. That's o.k. We're ready to hire him to be OUR Commander-In-Chief.
We also won't mind if he does two other jobs, just like every other good American (according to Bush). He can keep his job as the head of the global effort to reverse global warming and, in his spare time, we would also like him to be the leader of our Executive Branch.

I have no doubt Gore can do them all ... and chew gum at the same time.
