or illustrate that Drawing down the troops(iraq) is not defeat. IMO, there are unwinnable(?) situations in life--likewise in war. Especially, these Assymetric Wars. One Side, there is a traditional militay, the other side employs guerilla tactics of every sort.
This in no way disrespects Israel. It just happens that this is an example and the only one I know at present. I will not state my age, but for many long years now it seems I awaken to Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I do not believe anyone can criticize the ability and strength of the Israeli Military. Yet year in year out, the struggle goes on. Israel has put some pretty haard hits on the Palestinians over the years. What has happened---their eye for eye, tit for tat, waring continues. As I see it, this also is assymetrical warfare. No one wins, yet you cannot say one side loses. This is what I call an unwinnable circumstance.
To an average person like me, this what I see our troops being involved in --only they are more less trying to keep two warring factions from slaughtering each other. Contributing further -- Morally speaking(my opinion) they cannot side with one group over the other. The situation becomes more and more untenable. There is no way we can say our troops failed. Our Military did not fail. No one won outright. We simply cannot go on as long as Israel apparently is willing to do.
Withdrawing troops in a responsible and careful way is not defeat. Help me find the phrase or word--for which I am searching. We need a phrase express our beliefs as the Republicans yell--Defeat is not acceptable, the answer, etc.
