Financial interests blocking Iran pressure

Other news, World

WASHINGTON (UPI) — U.S. President George Bush Wednesday admitted business interests may stand in the way of negotiations with Iran over its uranium enrichment program.

<snip>

Bush said he would not finger any countries in particular, "but money trumps peace sometimes. In other words, commercial interests are very powerful interests throughout the world. And part of the issue is convincing people to put sanctions on a specific country is to convince them that it's in the world's interest that they forgo their own financial interests."

on edit: reinserted quotes that were dropped by initial form post. And I am in no way defending the SOB, just putting up the first news article to publish what was said.

3. He's a master of ironic understatement.
Like financial interests weren't trumping common sense in the invasion and occupation of Iraq?

4. You have to remember that Big Business or Corporatism is not a monolith
I'm sure for every potential war profiteer off Iran, there's another businessman who will likely be hit hard in the economic aftermath of such a conflict. The only agreement is on keeping workers suppressed, divided, and disorganized. Everybody is on the same page with respect to the workers.

sanctions, just doing it through the Caymens instead of the states, while Cheney was in charge there. You mean like that? :shrug:

Money trumps peace! He finally spoke the truth and I won't EVER forget that he said it.

Financial interests blocking Iran pressure
WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush Wednesday admitted business interests may stand in the way of negotiations with Iran over its uranium enrichment program.

Bush told a White House news conference the challenge is to convince nations "what really matters in the long run is to have the environment so peace can flourish."

Bush said he would not finger any countries in particular, but "money trumps peace sometimes. In other words, commercial interests are very powerful interests throughout the world. And part of the issue is convincing people to put sanctions on a specific country is to convince them that it's in the world's interest that they forgo their own financial interests."
