Live in fear all ye nations of the world, especially you 'Murikans.

3. Interesting, however is the fact that the concept of the Caliphate
Has been pretty much abandoned, the last one was in Turkey in 1924. No Osama speech or whatever speaks of brining it back.

5. Saxton read a letter on the floor about bringing it back and attributing it
to Al-Zawahiri. If that was true, my guess is that "they" are conducting the equivalent of a psy-ops on hysterical Republics.

SOmeone tell Marsha Blackburn to sit her twangy little butt down and shut up for a while. It's like the Rs keep running the same half dozen speakers through every so often.

8. Well, someone had to pick up the torch
now that Katie and the twins are gone. Blackburn rose to the challenge.

4. And who exaclty will rule the Caliphate?
Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 12:51 PM by CJCRANE
The Saudis? The Persians? The Turks? The Indonesians? The Egyptians? The Moroccans? The Zanzibaris...etc etc

I think it might be just a little bit difficult to organise.

on edit: and how about the Shias and the Sunnis, they don't seem ready to put aside their differences just yet.

6. It has such a mysterious and terrifying ring to it, doesn't it?
Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 12:55 PM by The_Casual_Observer
Sounds so middle eastern, like a spell cast by Imhotep or something. It sure scares me.

It's the kind of a word that Dr. Gene Scott used to use to enchant the rubes into sending in their money.

7. Yeah, I heard wingnuts ranting about that last night
I just wonder how the hell they got their marching orders out there before Congress did.

There is no caliphate at present. It's a wet dream of fringe elements of Islam, exactly the same as the Christian Reconstruction movement in the US.

I'll bet half the people we'll hear shrieking the word in the next couple of weeks will have highly creative pronunciations of it.

10. Funny they weren't too worried about that in 2002.
I know that point was made numerous times here. Knock out the only secular government in the ME and you set up the conditions for radicalizing the religious fundies in the region. Bush did exactly what Osama bin Laden wanted. Perhaps we should revisit the grounds for impeachment.

12. The Caliphate is more likely to be spread by Bushco...
their dream is to turn America into a Christian version of Saudi Arabia...then B*sh gets the nod from his wahabbi friends and says...
"by the way you know we said everyone had to worship the One God and read the holy book, well there's just a slight change in the details..."
