Ah The Joys Of The Squid Pro Quo !!! - Check THIS Graph Out !!!
You Get What you Pay For!

From Jane Hamsher at FDL!

<snip>

Harry Reid himself took $22,000 in contributions from AT&T between 2001-2006. OpenSecrets reports that he also owns between $15,001 and $50,000 worth of stock in Dow Jones U.S. Telecommunications Sector Index Fund, the largest holdings of which are AT&T and Verizon.

Who says these guys aren't doing the people's bidding. Corporations are people too! Thanks SCOTUS!

3. I worked at Verizon for 20 years...
and I can tell you the employee "contributions" were not optional. Just like giving to the United Way. They have reports with detail down to the manager level of how much was given by whom. If you don't give you get harassed, especially if you are management.

5. You'd think, but they got around the law by only having reports
at the manager's group level. No specific names were on the report. They hassle the managers to get their "voluntary" contributions up, then the managers harass their subordinates. Part of the report is the number of individual contributions that allows the manager to see how many in his group contributed.

I was a manager as was my husband. We both rebelled and refused to participate. We were both pretty darn good at our jobs, fortunately. They couldn't fire us for refusing to play along as that would reveal their little scam, and I think that our bosses were somewhat sympathetic and did not hold it against us.

This was Verizon's modus operandi for United Way and some PAC that the employees "controlled" even if it only contributed to telecom-friendly pols.

8. Wow, that is truly amazing...
Thank you for providing the inside scoop on this.

Kudos to you for standing up. That must not have been easy. You
and your wife could see the writing on the wall, and going against
the grain was risky. How brave. I'm sure most employees go
along to get along--and to continue getting paychecks and moved
up the corporate ladder.

This kind of practice really is like a cancer. If the corporations
own the politicians and the politicians own the corporations, it's
only a matter of time before they all try to own the employees
and exploit them in numerous ways.

I find this really appalling.

I had a Verizon cell phone. I lost it and never replaced it. I'm
very glad for that.

Thanks again for your sharing your story.

9. Maybe not as brave as I might have made it sound
We were both kind of mavericks in all kinds of things, so people were pretty used to us "acting up"!

6. "money" isn't speech, and corporations are not "people" -- but we'll be living in this "reality"
until we get our country back.

10. Oops...Sounds like criminal behavior is going to be pardoned
or a law excusing it will occur.
