A story about falling down and knocking out teeth.
Despite some rather odd comments asserting that this is unlikely, it certainly can and does happen.

A case in point: My brother. When he was 10, a girl tried to kiss him in the hallway at school. In his haste to escape her tender attentions he managed to hit the floor, knocking out his two front teeth.

5. It's about Miss Rhodes. Did someone aver you were mugged when you fell down?
Or were you the target of an attack by the right wing of the orchestra?

The problem with the story is that a lot of other stories came out before the "approved" story, which is "I fell down, not sure how, don't remember."

I suppose it would help to trace the sources of these stories that preceded this latest version.

3. I think it's entirely possible. Pretty much anything is possible.
What I find ODD is the moveable feast of stories to explain those injuries.

It's not the simple falling down, it's the "Mugging, no mugging; HATE crime!! Target of a RIGHT WING attack!!!" followed by "Uh, I fell down and I don't know why or how it happened."

A lot of fuel was added to this fire with those ever-changing, breathlessly authoritative tales.

It's a controversy ONLY because of all the bullshit that preceded it. Makes one think there's something more than meets the eye.

That's all I'm sayin'.....

4. My stepson's friend broke a front tooth while clowning around at my rented house
His mom suddenly mutated from nice lady into money-sucking gorgon.

My then-wife and I got a letter from her ATTORNEY demanding that we acknowledge liability and agree to pay the boy's dental bills.

Our landlord got the same.

Fortunately we had renter's insurance which would cover it, and the landlord's homeowner's insurance was willing to pay up as well. The two companies worked out some kind of deal, and the kid's tooth got fixed for about $300.

My stepson never saw his friend again. What an unpleasant person his mom turned out to be.

7. Happened to my brother when he was three years old.
He was toddlin' around, carrying one of those small, glass bottles of Coke, and he tripped over a threshhold. Knocked out one of his baby teeth and drove another one up into his gum line. :(

8. shame on you! tellin on your little brother like that!

great story.

But seriously, Decades ago, when my husband abused me,(dear old thing is all better since he quit drinking, many years past) I had to make up stories about how i got the black eye. I love Randi and hope the best for her. But this story is fishy.

(BTW, I have NO idea what might have happened to our goddess. Just talking about me)

10. Did your brother remember what happened?
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 09:37 AM by tuckessee
Ms. Rhodes doesn't remember.

It then begs the question - was Ms. Rhodes drunk when the "fall" happened?

--edited to change a silly misspelling--

11. A friend of mine went on vacation
One of those high-stress "vacations" where every moment was booked with things to do, places to be. With 2 days left, he finally had the last bit wrung out of him and passed out on his feet. He came home with an apple jaw, 2 teeth missing from the side of his face, and a bag of painkillers.

12. An old girlfriend of mine fell as a teen while roller skating.
Knocked out her top front two teeth. They couldn't re-seat them, so they implanted two fake ones.

Cost a bundle.

14. So who came up with the mugging story and why?
It seemed like the mugging story was making the rounds until the NYPD came out and said there was no police report and then the dog walking story came out.

15. the "mugging" story was making the rounds because John Elliot wrongly assumed it to be the case
The first report that there had been a "mugging" came out late Monday night (and it was reported that she was walking her dog at that time). Early afternoon on Tuesday, her lawyer debunked the mugging story.
