Why Gore needs to make a decision SOON (and Please Run!!!)
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 07:04 PM by JMDEM
Below are the Democratic Party primary filing dates. I could see Gore missing Michigan, but I would say that he had better get in by Nov. 5th -- the Illinois primary -- if he's going to get in. That's 21 days from today (Oct. 15th, 2007).

At the very latest, he might give up on Michigan, Georgia, South Carolina, Illinois, New Hampshire, and Missouri. This would be about 15% of the delegates. So I guess he could put things off until Dec. 3rd. (If he waited 1 more day past that -- whoops -- 2 days -- he'd miss New York and California, and it would be all over.) But even 15% is a pretty big chunk to overcome -- the majority of Democratic candidates don't even have 15% poll numbers.

October 23– Filing Deadline for Michigan Primary
November 1– Filing Deadline for Georgia Primary
November 1– Filing Deadline for South Carolina Primary
November 2 – CNN Debate
November 5 – Filing Deadline for Illinois Primary
November 16 – Filing Deadline for New Hampshire Primary
November 20 – Filing Deadline for Missouri Primary
December 3 – Filing Deadline for Maryland Primary
December 3 – Filing Deadline for New York Primary
December 4 – Filing Deadline for California Primary
December 10 - Filing Deadline for Delaware Primary.
December 13 – Filing Deadline for Tennessee Primary
December 14 – Filing Deadline for Virginia Primary
December 17 - Filing Deadline for Arizona Primary
December 20 – Filing Deadline for Connecticut Primary
December 21 – Filing Deadline for Massachusetts Primary
December 31– Filing Deadline for Florida Primary
January 2 – Filing Deadline for Texas Primary
January 7 – Filing Deadline for New Jersey Primary
January 29 - Filing Deadline for Kentucky Primary

4. I think he's made his decision.
It's not what many of us here wanted but it's done now.

5. There's still hope
21 days is a long time -- a lot of TV appearances without the "equal time" problem.

Now, I'm not aware of how delegates are divided in the primaries -- is it "winner take all?" If not, then if he entered on Dec. 3rd, maybe a bunch of delegates for lesser candidates could switch to him? Or is that an absolute no-no in the political world?

7. I am sure there are many here who are convinced
that Gore does not have to do anything and it will never be too late because God will simply appoint him as our next president, so why worry about deadlines? Or they are equally convinced that the convention will be deadlocked and will naturally turn to Gore and make him be the candidate against his will. Or that even if there is another Democratic nominee and Gore still insists that he is not running that tens of millions of voters will write in his name on the ballot.

10. Perhaps this thread is a wake-up call
I don't know what else can be done -- maybe more ads, maybe more organizing -- anything. But it has to be done fast.

There's one other thing that really freaks me out. People forget that Edwards is in a very precarious position. If his wife's health goes south in a hurry, I'm sure he'd back out of the race, no matter what his poll standings. In my opinion, that's the kind of man he is. Given the presidency or his wife, he'd take his wife. And that's exactly why I'd vote for him, but it could also be exactly why he might suddenly remove himself from the race. Then who are we left with as front-runners? War supporters and those who want to forget the past?
