Romney: " Marijuana Is "A Plague To Our Country"
Romney " Marijuana Is "A Plague To Our Country"

Romney "Gets Animated": Marijuana Is "A Plague To Our Country"

After two Mitt Romney speeches this morning, the most interesting moment came when an audience member at the Conservative Leadership Conference asked him about medical marijuana.

The question prompted a short tirade against drug use.

Asked whether he would call off the Drug Enforcement Agency from raids in states that have approved medical marijuana use, Romney responded loudly: "No."

"I believe marijuana is the gateway to drug use that is a plague to our children and a plague to our country," he said. "Medical marijuana is a Trojan horse for getting marijuana legalized. That is the last thing America needs. We do not need more drugs in our school and homes." Mitt the Twit

I stayed polite, but afterwards bust out laughing. They actually thought they could convert an ethnically German-American Engineer to a faith that forbids drinking beer and coffee!!!

39. exactly I'd expect this.
Allow the Mormon church to run it and suddenly God will OK it, just like he did with Caffeine. God’s will is apparently flexible when it comes to profit.

while on vacation that had a very live and let live attitude. They had their communes and did not like being told how to live on them and when I talked about cannabis smoking they basically said what you do in your home is your business.

I'd be much more upset about this if I though Romney had a chance in hell of winning.

I wonder what he thinks about people who grow and sell other herbs used for healing (as well as cooking). Let me pick one.

Would Mitt outlaw Peppermint? It's wonderful for settling the stomach. Does it lead to the use of other herbs? Does Mitt think it's time to ban Altoids®?

If not, then he's just another hypocrite.

In the meanwhile the Bush Crime Family is pushing Mitt for Pres.

Bush family hedges its bets for 2008
By Alexander Bolton
March 26, 2007

Much of Jeb’s inner circle has picked Romney. The list includes Sally Bradshaw, who served as Gov. Bush’s campaign manager in 1994 and 1998 and as his first gubernatorial chief of staff; Ann Herberger, who was the governor’s campaign finance director; and Mandy Fletcher, who recently headed Bush’s think tank, Foundation for Florida’s Future, and worked on his reelection. In addition, Alan Philp, Bush’s former policy director, is coordinating policy and issues for Romney.

Jeb Bush’s former lieutenant governor Toni Jennings, Al Cardenas, who served as Florida GOP chairman under Jeb, David Griffin, who headed Jeb’s second -term transition office and was the Florida Lottery Secretary, Sherri McVay, executive director of Jeb’s statewide advocacy council, and Kristy Campbell, the former governor’s press secretary, are all playing roles in Romney’s campaign.

24. While googling this very issue looking for the actual stats
I ran across the following explanation: we are not experiencing an explosion of psychotropic drug use in children, the levels of psychotropic drug use are unchanged as illegal (and unprofitable to Big Pharma, but the poster neglected that fact out) drugs are replaced by legal ones. They know exactly what they are doing. The WOSD is a huge corrupt scam. It is the Prison/Pharma/Mafia/Industrial Complex.

does anyone here really think the war on marijuana will end during the hillary clinton era? i thought not.

i don't expect to see legalization, or even decriminalization, during the 40-odd years i've got left. you can't make an argument for tolerance in a puritan nation.

81. Some may think that your "Kolob" graphic is satirical.
I'm reading a history of Mormonism (this one) and what you have there is exactly what Mormons believe!

The book describes Mormon founder Joseph Smith as using his "magic peep-stones" to find buried treasure, which he was constantly digging for (but never found). He would put the stone in his hat, then cover his entire face with the hat so that it was light-tight and "look around" until he spotted the treasure. The reason he gave for never actually unearthing anything valuable was that as he approached the treasure it receded further into the ground (propelled by Satan). One time he was able to grab a chip off the corner of a treasure chest just before it slipped away and he exhibited the chip proudly as proof of his abilities.

All of Smith's numerous "revelations" and "mystical experiences" are of a like nature. (Like the Golden Book that he dug up and translated. He wouldn't show it to anyone and ultimately had a revelation that he should re-bury it, still unseen by anyone, at which time it receded irretrievably into the ground. Satan again, I assume.)

It's a very interesting book and I recommend it highly, but be warned. Reading it is like reading about crazy people, page after page after page of it. Wow!

101. I've been saying it for years.
And, no, people DON'T want to think about it.

But the truth is that kids like to screw with their own perceptions anyway. Remember making yourself dizzy on purpose? It's fun, right? (well, it stopped being fun for me a LONG time ago--just makes me sick). But it just goes to show that we have a natural inclination to do this sort of thing to ourselves, from sugar to alcohol to cannabis to (for some) LSD or cocaine. If it's not drugs of one kind or another, it's meditation, or religious fervor, or a "runner's high."

52. Marijuana arrests are a gateway to prison culture
Ever think of that, Mitt? That the hundreds of thousands of arrests of non-violent, non-criminal pot smokers strips away the fear of the criminal justice system? That weakens the stigma of being an "ex-con"? That it puts non-violent, non-criminal pot users in intimate contact with the hardcore criminal element, and that they get recruited?

Ever think of that, Mitt?

He doesn't have a clue to what MEDICAL marijuana actually does. Should we ban Demerol for people in a car accident because it might wind up in the hands of children?

But it's consistent with his other views that have nothing to do with reality.

"I believe marijuana is the gateway to drug use that is a plague to our children and a plague to our country,"

Is that the same way you 'believe' evolution isn't real?

So funny. I have been to homes that had over 100 pounds of grass in them, all illegal and all ready to be distributed 1 or 10 pounds at a time to low level dealers. How could you have more drugs in our homes??? People that want drugs just buy them like they buy food and that is in an illegal system. Hell in high school it was easier to buy LSD than it was to buy alcohol.

75. Mitt Twit is following the Mormon Tradition
For most of human history, marijuana has been completely legal. It's not a recently discovered plant, nor is it a long-standing law. Marijuana has been illegal for less than 1% of the time that it's been in use. Its known uses go back further than 7,000 B.C. and it was legal as recently as when Ronald Reagan was a boy.

The marijuana (hemp) plant, of course, has an incredible number of uses. The earliest known woven fabric was apparently of hemp, and over the centuries the plant was used for food, incense, cloth, rope, and much more. This adds to some of the confusion over its introduction in the United States, as the plant was well known from the early 1600's, but did not reach public awareness as a recreational drug until the early 1900's.

However, the first state law outlawing marijuana did so not because of Mexicans using the drug. Oddly enough, it was because of Mormons using it. Mormons who traveled to Mexico in 1910 came back to Salt Lake City with marijuana. The church was not pleased and ruled against use of the drug. Since the state of Utah automatically enshrined church doctrine into law, the first state marijuana prohibition was established in 1915. (Today, Senator Orrin Hatch serves as the prohibition arm of this heavily church-influenced state.)

Other states quickly followed suit with marijuana prohibition laws, including Wyoming (1915), Texas (1919), Iowa (1923), Nevada (1923), Oregon (1923), Washington (1923), Arkansas (1923), and Nebraska (1927). These laws tended to be specifically targeted against the Mexican-American population.

When Montana outlawed marijuana in 1927, the Butte Montana Standard reported a legislator's comment: "When some beet field peon takes a few traces of this stuff... he thinks he has just been elected president of Mexico, so he starts out to execute all his political enemies."

In Texas, a senator said on the floor of the Senate: "All Mexicans are crazy, and this stuff is what makes them crazy."

"How Parents Can Help Children Live Marijuana Free" by Gerald Smith, director of the criminology program at the University of Utah.

Page 20 lists the "Social Signs of Regular Users," which include "excessive preoccupation with social causes, race relations, environmental issues, etc."

113. Really, the democrats should be campaigning on legalizing medical Marijuana
I seriously don't understand why the people in Washington don't just wake up and go "hey the American people overwhelmingly support medical Marijuana, so maybe we should legalize it". I mean I think something like 2/3's, or 70% of Americans support it. Why aren't any presidential candidates going around saying "if elected president I'll legalize medical Marijuana". I mean I can understand why saying "the drug war has failed, we should just legalize drugs and tax them because they only cause more crime" might not be so smart politically, but medical Marijuana is different and has the overwhelming public support. You could attack candidates who are against it by saying "my opponent would rather see good Americans suffer then allowing them to use any medicine that's been proven to help them".
