We are overpaid, say U.S. executives
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/29593584-7a7a-11dc-9bee-0000779fd2ac.html

Most US corporate leaders believe chief executives are overpaid and do not provide value for money for their companies, according to a study that will embolden critics of excessive compensation.

The findings – to be published today by the National Association of Corporate Directors – are likely to strengthen calls by investors and politicians, including George W. Bush, US president, for restraint on executive pay at a time of growing income inequality in the US.

Top executives’ criticism of their peers’ compensation levels could also encourage activist investors and hedge funds to target underperforming companies with highly-paid leaders at shareholder meetings.

3. I agree - some CEOs are overpaid.....

That's why I am glad that the UAW called GM's bluff and held out for a small raise against General Motors in their most recent contract negotiations.

It kills me to see the company give the head honcho a multi-million dollar bonus several months after a union has voted to forgo raises and other incentives to keep their cash-strapped company going!

5. They all need to read Wealth and Democracy by Kevin Phillips
You can have great wealth or a democracy, but you cannot have both -- Louis Brandeis

All economic empires before ours have collapsed because wealth was overconcentrated to a few. Our economic empire is ending and these 'patriots' are seeing to our country's demise. Social darwinism, survival of the greediest, is winning and 'proof' of their moral superiority.

May God help us all.

6. The robber baron class or top 1% is hauling away 21% of ALL the......
wages and compensation, while the bottom 50% receives ONLY 13% of ALL the wages and compensation. The American worker is being royally screwed by the SOB executive management and wall street shareholders.

7. as if merely the being in the top 1% means anything of consequence

to live a life with economic options that are genuinely a class difference from the same middle-class existence the rest of us have, you really are talking about a small fraction of that top 1%.

having a nicer house or a nicer car or two is one thing. being able to buy and sell companies wholesale, hire or fire thousands of people with a few phone calls, or develop entire towns -- THAT's wealthy. and that's very small percentage of the country.

8. Even if it means they are still
way overpaid I like companies that only give stock to their CEO's.

Steve Jobs only gets a dollar a year in salary, the rest is in stocks. So his financial well being is more directly tied to how well he does his job.

Pepsi is another one that does this I believe.

10. Yeah but if you do stuff like "backdate" the options so that their apparent value or
appreciation is falsely elevated, that invalidates the premise of what you are talking about.

11. Yeah
that is true, although Jobs himself was cleared of any wrong doing.

And it is my understanding it was the way they reported it and the doing it that was the problem.

12. WAY overpaid
Over compensated over gifted.over indulged.
Question is will they put that money where their mouth is?
Saying you are overpaid is very different than being fair, restraining greedy hands and taking a pay cut.
