What is the longest you have stuck with a position you hate?
A year and a half ago I got a big promotion, unfortunately what was supposed to be travel for a few hearings a month has become travelling home a few times a month. I spend my days going over the bare bones basics of NAFTA with government officials and executives with titles like "Vice President for International Opperations - North America" and writing individual responses to astroturf petitioners who are flooding the regulator with bullshit petitions in exchange for giftcards.

My efforts to find a position of the same level and salary has been a failure, with a little sabotage thrown in for good measure. I am really getting to a point I miss working on personal bankruptcies.

What is the longest anyone has stuck with a position they HATE on the grounds seeing it through would be good for your career?

1. Don't Worry Bud,,,
At middle age we all realize that we hate our jobs.

On my end,,,, I spent at least four years doing a job I hate to help me get the job I got now.

Was it worth it? Who knows, I'll tell you in 15 years when I retire. But I'll tell you one thing, it''s a bad way to lead your life.

2. Ha. I'm 25 and have already given up on the idea of having "a career".
Job satisfaction should be measured by how much the job satisfies you, rather than the salary or the prospects for advancement.

If you don't like the job you're doing now, what makes you think you'll like the one your current job is leading to?

8. I'm an enforcer
I make sure the Americans we represent are getting a fair shake from the Canadians,

I fly home whenever I can and my girlfriend comes to see me whenever she can, between my employer being pretty generous on my airfares and my frequent flyer miles covering her it works. But it isn't the way any couple would want to live.

5. Three years
What had been a stressful job with a good boss became a stressful job, period, when a bad boss came in.

When my dad finally yelled for help taking care of my mother, it came as a relief.

6. About 30 minutes and then I faked a leg cramp
Oh, you meant employment? I always stay at those awful jobs long after every other sane person has quit and moved on. I would say about a year after hating it in the first month.

18. I always suspected there were folks like you
What a tough position. I sympathize with you. Really tough choice, it's a prime reason that I didn't pursue a JD. I wonder if Hanity, Rush, and Bill O' actually believe anything they say. They're so rich they'll never be touched by a burning America that they stoked.

I work my ass off and hate it, by I guess I'm lucky I don't have to let unwanted objects into it.
