Conservatives and Harry Potter
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 06:32 PM by Rocknrule
Alot of fundies condemn Harry Potter, but have you ever noticed that the most unlikeable characters seem to be mirror images of certain RWers? For example, the Malfoys are alot like the Bushes - rich, powerful, lots of political influence, and corrupt to the core. The Dursleys mirror the stereotypical uptight, intolerant conservative family that hates and fears anything they don't understand. The Bush administration in general is similar to the corrupt and ignorant Ministry of Magic from books 5 and 7, and Dolores Umbridge is like a cross between Harriet Myers and John Ashcroft. Rita Skeeter reminds me of Fox News and the rest of the M$M. And of course, there are the "Republicans for Voldemort" bumper stickers. Can you think of any others?

2. Rowling spent a lot of time in Lisbon, and gathered a lot of info in its fascist dictator Salazar
so, really, any tale about one manipulative dictatorship is about all of them

3. Look beyond Harry Potter
just look at mythology, fiction, your classic and favorite children's stories. Hell look at Disney's villians (even if you are anti Disney, which I find funny). They are archetypes of many of the same energy, mentality and actions as the worst of literatures worst.

4. Uh, oh, the devil's got ahold of you.

They tried to warn you about reading HP. Time to alert the prayer chain.
