Vermont Legislature Calls For Immediate End To Iraq War
Forgive me if this has already been posted:

Vermont lawmakers call for U.S troop withdrawal in Iraq
By Ross Sneyd, Associated Press Writer | February 13, 2007

MONTPELIER, Vt. --Vermont lawmakers called on Congress and the president Tuesday to immediately withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq, becoming the first state legislature to do so.

The vote came as the U.S. House of Representatives began debating a resolution opposing President Bush's planned surge of troops into Iraq and Democratic leaders in the U.S. Senate prepared to do the same.

But the Vermont House and Senate went further, telling Congress and President Bush it was time "to commence immediately the orderly withdrawal of American military forces from Iraq."

Other state legislatures have considered nonbinding resolutions opposing the troop surge, as the Vermont resolutions also did. But according to a summary of resolutions compiled by the National Conference of State Legislatures, none called for troops to begin coming home.

2. kick- what I found most heartening about
this story were comments by Iraq war vets who were disappointed that the leg cut language in the resolution that pointed out that U.S. forces in Iraq are making things worse, in an attempt to garner repub votes. Of course it didn't work- few repubs signed on to the resolution. Still, I'm proud of my state for taking a stand on immediate withdrawal of all troops.
