LA Times: They love to do their homework (College Program in Homemaking)
Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 12:19 PM by brooklynite
FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Equal but different.

You hear that a lot on the lush green campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Biblical homemakingGod values men and women equally, any student here will tell you. It's just that he's given them different responsibilities in life: Men make decisions. Women make dinner.

This fall, the internationally known seminary -- a century-old training ground for Southern Baptists -- began reinforcing those traditional gender roles with college classes in homemaking. The academic program, open only to women, includes lectures on laundering stubborn stains and a lab in baking chocolate-chip cookies.

4. this really isn't from The Onion? the fact that there are still women who buy into this incredible
sexist garbage is sad.

many years ago, a young woman of my acquaintence was applying to one of these holy roller colleges, and asked me to help her with her application. when it got to the part about detailing her menstrual history, length and flow of periods, etc., I told her that if she actually went there, she was a total idiot.

9. Our FRiends were discussing this earlier...
Here's a sensitive perspective...

My wife has bought into this women need to work thing. I make more than enough to support the family but she feels the need to work to show her worth. It causes big fights when I bring up that the ones that suffer are the kids and my house looks like crap. Her being a practicing psychologist who specializes in major mental disorders but has had training in family counseling I find it paradoxical that she cannot see some of the issues that arise from non-nuclear families. What do I know I am only a layman ( with a technical Master’s degree ) I am told.

So I get to plug along and make sure I take off work when the kids have a function to get to so she can work to be able to buy more junk.
