I heard just a snip on GMA when I first got up this morning, so I wasn't quite awake.

Maybe I'm hallucinating...

2. Rush's henchman, Mark Levin, said he was a nominee
But, he had no influence over the Nobel Prize Committee.

5. It doesn't take much to become a nominee
Just a few people sponsoring you. Hell, you or I could be nominees. But we'd never be taken seriously, and we'd never win. Neither will OxyRush.

18. You're right about that
A friend of mine and I nominate each other.

One year I tried for the prize in medicine with my revolutionary studies in phrenology.

6. Limbaugh makes that claim.
He claims that anyone can be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, and Levin (sp), the lawyer he uses as a legal adviser for his show, nominated him. I'm not sure he is correct about how you get nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, but his point is to denigrate anyone who does actually get nominated for a Nobel Prize by claiming that the nomination is meaningless.

12. He's correct on one point
An initial nomination is meaningless. They get thousands of nominations every year -- including mine.

Once they've cleared the first screening, which people like Al Gore did (obviously), they're all serious candidates

7. Nomination is very easy
A friend ofmine and I nominate each other every year for a variety of awards...Hell...scrub has been nominated.

Most nominations are discarded by the committee and then they begin the review of serious candidates.

Get a friend or two...NOminate each other and you too can say you were nominated.

14. Not EVERYONE can nominate--you have to be in government, on a faculty,
working at a think tank....I posted the list downthread.

Second...You can sent a submission to the Nobel Committee. Anyone can send one.
They get thrown in the trash can. So technically anyone CAN get a nomination sent in.
They actually get a bunch of these useless letters every year.

What the limbaugh followers don't know is...Once the 'useless' letters are trashed (and it's a fairly easy process) they look at the real nominees.

So...what Oxycotin is telling his minions is true, in the sense that someone did send in a nomination. The dishonesty of it is...the nomination isn't legit.
Hell, my nomination isn't legit. Difference is...I know it isn't legit.

edit: My computer hates me.

30. I work in government as well, but I don't have a qualifying nominating position.
Staffers don't count. You have to be 'Members of national assemblies and governments of states.' Elected or appointed by an elected official, there. If you meet that criteria, you're a Senator or a member of the House of Representatives (assuming you are American) or working in an elected or appointed position, you're good to go. If you work at a think tank, right wing or otherwise, you can nominate. If you're a college prof, you can nominate.

Sure, anyone can send a letter in--but for it to COUNT, you have to meet the criteria specified by the committee. I'll bet some idiot meeting the nominating criteria sent in his nomination. Like I said, there are plenty of idiots in the world who meet some of that criteria.

9. That story was BS the a Rush-fan invented for idiot freeper consumption.
Real "Nominees" are nominated by members of the Nobel NOMINATING COMMITTEE;
Limbaugh just had some fan who sent them a letter saying he should get one.

I could send them a letter saying YOU deserved one, and it would go into
the same trash can as the letter about Limbaugh. Would you go around
calling yourself a "nominee" if I did?

Rush does. :eyes:

Somehow they nominated him.Yesterday the bookie odds for Rush were 100 to 1 ! I can't believe they seriously thought he could win.They also nominated Bush. Needless to say, that nomination did not do well either! Snicker.

Qualified Nominators
– The Nobel Peace Prize
The right to submit proposals for the Nobel Peace Prize shall, by statute, be enjoyed by:

1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states;
2. Members of international courts;
3. University rectors; professors of social sciences, history, philosophy, law and theology; directors of peace research institutes and foreign policy institutes;
4. Persons who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
5. Board members of organizations who have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize;
6. Active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; (proposals by members of the Committee to be submitted no later than at the first meeting of the Committee after February 1) and
7. Former advisers appointed by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.

The Nobel Peace Prize may also be awarded to institutions and associations.

The people listed in item one and item three are a dime a dozen, and plenty are dumb as posts, too.

19. It is complete and utter bullshit
Mark Levin (The guy who supposedly nominated him) has absolutely NO STANDING and is unable to nominate anyone for ANY Nobel prize, much less Limpballs. This was a line of bullshit put up by Levin because he is...well...just as nuts (or more so) than Limpballs.

Here is the page from the Nobel site itself describing who can nominate;
http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/nominators.html

The right to submit proposals for the Nobel Peace Prize shall, by statute, be enjoyed by:

1. Members of national assemblies and governments of states;
2. Members of international courts;

7. Former advisers appointed by the Norwegian Nobel Institute.
This does NOT include Levin by any stretch of the imagination.

CNN repeated this bullshit the day before yesterday.

Edited on Fri Oct-12-07 08:44 AM by rpannier
They're not legit.

Hell...a friend of mine and I nominate each other every year.
They get pitched.

Capt Oxycotin says it just to belittle those who clear the screening process.

on edit: There's a congressman who nominated duh-bya scrub for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Capt Oxycotin knows his bottom feeders don't understand how the process works.

26. does anyone know how to google Nobel Peace Prize????????
"Each year the respective Nobel Committees send individual invitations to thousands of members of academies, university professors, scientists from numerous countries, previous Nobel Laureates, members of parliamentary assemblies and others, asking them to submit candidates for the Nobel Prizes for the coming year. These nominators are chosen in such a way that as many countries and universities as possible are represented over time."

http://nobelprize.org/nomination

So yes, some right winger probably submitted Rush for the Prize.

Here are this years laureates:
