The niece of a friend of mine fell in love with a young marine, and accepted his proposal of marriage. Not long after becoming engaged, he was deployed to Iraq. She planned for their wedding to take place after he returned from Iraq. Only Dumbyass decided to extend our troops deployment. So she had to cancel everything, and reliquish deposits.

She's entered a contest to win a free wedding; and could really benefit by having as many people vote for them as possible.

I know that gay couples cannot legally marry in Florida, and that is really the point.

As long as private organizations buy into and accept the paradigm that ony male/female couples can marry, they perpetuate the societal acceptance of the marriage = male/female paradigm.

There would be nothing that would prevent bodaclickusa.com from opening its contest to all couples, and even to assuring that at least one couple in the top ten is not mae/female. They could award the money to a couple who wanted to have a commitment ceremony that celebrates their love.

But, instead of that, bodaclickusa.com simply perpetuates the notion that marriage is between a man and a woman.

There are some churches that have refused to perform marriages until they can marry any couple that loves one another. bodaclickusa.com could learn a lesson from them.

Pardon me for my "attitude" - I actually am very much in favor of equality for all under the law. "marriage" is a religious institution, belongs in the churches, synagogues, wherever, and can have whatever rules they want, for all I care. But state-sanctioned legal contracts have NO BUSINESS discriminating on who can enter in to them based on race, creed, sexual orientation. That is the law of the land.

But thrusting that issue into every frickin conversation however tangential, then declaring "I shall not participate" like we gave a shit what you do is just self-absorbed crap.
