How much do I really know about Hillary?
I can remember in 2000 believing a lot of what I was told about Gore. He was wooden, he exaggerated etc, etc. I was a sheeple then, mind you. I know now from watching him lately what a good man he is and how stupid all those memes were back in the day.

In 2004, when my candidate didn't make it out of the primaries, I was unenthusiastic to say the least about a man I'd heard had the personality of Styrofoam. I was just starting to wake up then, having found a few articles about Gitmo and such. Still about half-sheeple, though. It took quite a bit of research, checking books out of the library, reading articles and just watching the guy for me to first warm up to Kerry, then downright love the guy.

If you want a good site for dispelling the myths about BOTH men, have a look at the Daily Howler.

I haven't spent a lot of time staring at Hillary. I get snippets here and in the media. To one side, she's a Socialist, to the other she's Republican-lite. I'm not impressed yet, I have to admit. But then I wasn't impressed with Kerry at about this point last election time. And sadly I have a tendency to get my news in a drive by fashion, either here or on the radio or in the newspapers. Seldom more than a minutes at a time, and seldom with much depth.

So I'm left wondering how much of what I THINK I know about Hillary has been shaped by the media, and to some extent here, and how much would my attitude if I just stopped long enough to read a few books, articles, and spend some time really looking at her. In other words, I wonder what I know about her, and what I only THINK I know about her. You know what I mean?

So in the interest of deeper study, a request. I think I've done this before, but I don't think we had bookmarks then. Or maybe I just forgot to bookmark the thing.

A call to the Hillary supporters:

Some good books on or by Hillary please.

A second request:

What is it about her that makes you a supporter? What do you absolutely love about her?

Thanks

1. Books and reasons.
Bill's book is great - http://www.amazon.com/My-Life-Bill-Clinton/dp/140003003X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-0781288-7516863?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192057817&sr=8-1

Hillary's books are good -

Bill's book is very long but the walk thru how he and Hillary developed relationships with people dating back to college is fascinating.

I've always been fond of the Clintons, doing my very first political work during the '92 campaign as a lowly door knocker.

But why I am diehard has to do with the personal.

I have a cousin who is a fireman in VA. In the week after 9/11, he took a leave of absence and drove to NY to help with the recovery of his brethren. He was there for about a month.

Those bastards at Rudy's OEM and Bush's EPA told them the air was ok.

It was not.

My cousin has been dealing with various strange health ailments ever since as have many other rescue workers only to be spit upon by the Bush admin.

Hillary has been advocating for these guys since the very beginning.

And for that I will never ever stop defending her from all comers.

2. Thank you for your response.
That's the sort of thing a supporter knows, that others do not.

When others act with so much hostility about her, do you find yourself thinking that they just don't know her, or just don't see her properly? I feel that with Kerry sometimes, because I spend enough attention on him to know where certain actions and words of his are coming from, when all other see is someone who's leaning which ever way the wind blows.

3. I'm not happy with all her positions.
I disagreed with her vote on Kyl-Lieberman though I think its importance has been over blown.

I think her decision to continue our policy towards Cuba with no normalizations efforts is short sighted.

But I agree with most of her positions and like I said its personal for me.

I think Hillary does not get the benefit of the doubt very often and that hurts sometimes.

But the best I can do is point out the positive.

Thanks for reminding me that people simply may not know about her and to be calm and courteous when passing on what info I do know.

:hi:

4. I'm the same way when Kerry gets hawkish about terrorism
then I remind myself that this is a man who is an actual terrorism expert and was sounding the alarm WAY before 9/11.

Indeed, I try to be as civil as I can as well when trying to pass on info. Don't always succeed mind you, but I do try.
