Pay to watch Olbermann on MSNBC???
just now on Thom Hartmann, COMCAST is moving MSNBC from basic cable to the expanded cable so you have to pay for it if you want to see it.

3. That's scary - really. Why should a single news network be removed from the
basic lineup?

Well, wait. I keep saying it's always the money, so maybe it's because MSNBC is doing so well they feel they can get revenue from viewers?

4. CNN, FOX, and MSNBC are all on expanded cable here (Seattle)
already. It must vary by market.

I have noticed a trend in hotels, on JetBlue, etc., to only have Fox - no CNN, no MSNBC, which is disturbing.

I don't get msnbc, I have FIOS. I'm in NY... I saw this right above the channel listing in the link you provided.

National Channel Lineup
Please note: For specific programming in your area, select the printable version of your local line up above. Not all programming is available in all geographic areas at all times. Please note MSNBC is not carried in certain areas of the New York and New Jersey markets.

edit to add: gees snarky much? I "KNOW".. because I have FIOS and I DON'T have msnbc.

8. Most cable companies are moving stuff into the digital (higher cost)
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 01:45 PM by SoCalDem
range.. That way they can DROP the cost for the basic cable charge and claim to be cheap.. Of course when you find out what that cheapo price includes (or does NOT include) the old bait & switch goes into effect..

They set up these tiers very carefully, so that in order to get what MOST people want, you HAVE to pay the highest price:grr:

When WE first got cable all those years ago, it was commercial-free and included ALL available channels and then some...and was under $10 a month..

9. They already moved it here in Denver.
I had to upgrade to digital to get MSNBC. It wasn't too painful because they didn't charge me extra.

Are they going to move it even higher on the dial? If so, I'm going to have words with Comcast. It's the fastest growing cable news station on television, they should be moving it from premium to basic, and not the other way around. Unless of course they have an agenda.

BTW, I couldn't find any confirmation on this doing a google news search.

Also, MSNBC, Faux and CNN have always been on our expanded basic service for $50 a month.

But this time, I think I'll tell them to just tell their CEO and Board of Directors to shove it.

Anybody know how Verizon is???

edited to add: or maybe I should just get off the tit of ALL utilities and go back to living off the land.

34. I have Dish but no MSNBC
They put MSNBC in some higher-priced pkg--all I get for "news" is CNN, but also BBC, LinkTV, Democracy Now, Free Speech, Doc, also CSPAN and CSPAN2. I'm disappointed in the few movies I can get--Lifetime once in a while, also USA (blech, so many damn commercials with 3rd-rate movies), a couple others. Still, I refuse to upgrade to a more expensive pkg--I already watch too much TV.

It appeared they were going to preview 8 HBO stations this month, but they went off after a few days, probably a mistake.

26. Cable seems to be moving to a three (or more) tier system
We just switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS.

On Comcast, you got all the broadcast channels in the Basic Package. Add in about 30 or 40 other channels for the Expanded Basic package. Add more in the Digital Basic package. Etc.

On Verizon, it is pretty much the same thing except their equivalent of the Expanded Basic has over 200 channels. The only thing we opted not to get are the premiums (HBO,SHO, Etc.), the Spanish language and foreign language (German, Italian, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, etc., etc.) stuff, and the sports.

For all that, our internet and our telephone (with no long distance charges at all) we pay $40 a month LESS than we did for Comcast's inferior signal, lackluster service and support, and rude telephone support.

Which I hated, because now I can't even listen to Keith. I have to wait an hour and a half or so to see him on the Net, since I refuse to get cable TV. Haven't had it since 1988.

37. I can't even get MSNBC on Expanded cable in my area. I have to wait two years
for it to be available.

The funny thing is, that Time/Warner Cable, which had our market before Comcast took it over, had MSNBC and a lot of other cable stations which Comcast doesn't have. And we are paying more for the service than with Time/Warner.

(Okay, Comcast seems to have more sports stations than Time/Warner did, but I don't like sports on television. So there!:evilfrown:)
