Thompson said "It is a global war - Islamic fascism has declared it upon us,"
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/E3FAA62B-E0CF-42CE-9B4F-2EDE525B684D.htm

Fred Thompson, the actor and ex-senator who has joined the Republican race for the US presidency, has vowed to halt the spread of "Islamic fascism" during a televised debate with his party rivals.

Thompson said "It is a global war - Islamic fascism has declared it upon us," during the debate with his eight rivals in Michigan on Tuesday.

"They play by no rules and they are intent on bringing down Western civilisation and the United States of America," said Thompson, famous for his role in the Law & Order television series.

Mitt Romney, a frontrunner, said Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, was a "rogue and a buffoon".

1. The fascists are so desperate to point the finger elsewhere!
"We're not the fascists! We can't be fascists! We're loyal white Christian American red blooded men! We love mom and apple pie! They must be the fascists! Yes! It's them, not us! See?"

I just wonder how many people out there are going to be stupid enough to buy it.

4. Well, they're acting to defuse the power of the word.
Which means they're listening to very good advice, dammit.

10. The same 70% who don't know what the word means
but that it's supposed to be something really, really bad. Yeah, gotcha, they'll just mindlessly repeat it as though it means something.

It sucks to be educated.

3. Isn't it lovely when they create an enemy that doesn't exist?
The Muslims who rather favor fascism are the ones WHO ARE OUR ALLIES. Can you say Saudi Arabia? Can you say oil emirates? Can you say Dubai? I thought you could.

5. Mittsy calls Ahmadinejad "a rogue and a buffoon"...
so is Bush, what's his point?

Freddy the T has clearly gone over the edge, as he believes that an invisible ideology has declared war upon us.

12. It's heartening that we've come a long way on DU since last spring, when
Thompson had many admirers and defenders--the ones who got mad at me for calling him an asshole. Where'd those folks go, anyway?

13. It's so uncanny the way that they can't say anything about
our supposed enemies without sounding self-referential at every point. Creepy.

14. What an insult
That these people think a small bunch of criminals in the middle east can destroy America? Don't they understand what an insult that is to an American. Did Oklahoma bombing bring down the USA? Did 9/11 bring down the USA? Did communist? No. Why? Americans are far more resilient and believe in this country far more than losers like Fred Thompson believe.

15. Since fascism is the marriage of state and corporate power
(according to that somewhat well known fascist Benito Mussolini), just how is a group like Al Qaeda an example of "Islamic fascism"? Who is the "state" and who is the "corporate" power in the Qaeda equation?

O, I see, Thompson you were just talking out of your as*hole.
