Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 10:20 AM by CT_Progressive
D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
(thinks hard)
Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
(runs out, alone; then returns)
Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let's do it.
Bluto: LET'S DO IT!

===================================================================================================
(DU Version)

HopelessDem: Election's over, man. Hillary is gonna be the nom. Our political system is owned by the megacorps. Fuck that, I'm not voting.
CT_Progressive: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
ConfusedDem: Germans?
Skinner: Forget it, he's rolling.
CT_Progressive: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
(thinks hard)
CT_Progressive: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
(runs out, alone; then returns)
CT_Progressive: What the fuck happened to the DU I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you CT_Progressive, we have morals. Hillary is just a (R) in disguise. We can't overcome the corporate corruption in politics." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Republicans, they are dead men walkin! Cheney, Impeached! Bush ...
ConfusedDem: Impeached! CT_Progressive's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
CT_Progressive: We're just the guys to do it.
HopelessDem: Let's do it.
Bluto: LET'S DO IT!

====================================================================================================

Why do some of you seem to be giving up on our country? On politics? Why do people say "Screw this, I'm not voting." ? Why do people think there is no way to overcome the corruption of corporate money on the election process? Isn't this the United States of America? Wasn't this country founded by people who stood up to an all-powerful monarchy and Declared its Independence from it? Don't we have the same power to affect change in our government as our forefathers before us?

Folks, this meme that "we are powerless and the system is unfixable" has to stop. "Live free or die" is not just a saying, its a way of life. We can never, ever, ever stop trying to fix the problems our country faces. Giving up solves NOTHING. Not voting solves NOTHING. Every time we are given a choice for leaders of our country, its our job to pick the most liberal choice, because we are liberals. It doesn't matter if that person is not as liberal as WE ARE. All that matters is that the person is the MOST liberal choice possible. We are the ones that make the choices. And when I say "We", I don't mean DemocraticUnderground.com. I mean all Democrats across the entire party, nationwide. And the Democratic Party is not 100% Liberal. Its part liberal, part moderate, and even a tiny bit conservative leaning moderate. I wish it wasn't, I wish it was 100% liberal, but its not.

Solutions to the epic problems facing this country will not be fixed by one administration. Or even two or three. The Republican Party was able to think long term, and grew their grassroots to take over back in 92. We then did it in 2006. We can do it at the presidential level just like we do it at the congressional level. Raise good candidates. Everything starts local, folks. Everything. People don't just become Senators and Representatives. They start out local, in town politics. Heck, even Ned Lamont here in CT was involved in his town for many years before he tried to step in directly at the national level against LIEberman.

Bitching and whining about how the current Dem presidential candidates suck won't solve anything. Not voting for them won't either. I don't care what you say, none of these candidates (including Hillary) are anywhere near as bad as a Republican. And we can make sure in future elections, the crop gets better and better (meaning, more liberal, less centrist) by making that change happen locally and grow nationally.

Vote (D) in 2008. It will shut out the Republicans from power, and cause a fundamental leftward shift in American politics. Then work hard for 2012/2016.

5. I am pretty sure that not 100% of Americans have seen the movie
or, if they did, to remember that line.

People who haven't seen it have the impression that someone was sleeping through the history lessons in High School.

There are plenty of people who have not seen "Animal House" and are not particularly clever nor witty, yet still get the joke. Especially considering he posted the script right there in the OP.

19. A thread with that line pops up here almost every month...
they're almost as ubiquitous as the moran picture. And every thread, someone tries to correct the error, dutifully noting that actually, it was the Japanese that bombed Pearl Harbor. At which point, much hilarity ensues.

You've been here 3 years and never seen a "Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" reference?

And for the rest of you, your pledge names are variants of "bruiser." <teasing>

p.s. Didn't seven years of college teach us any manners?!?

40. Yes, but one of the other PRIMO scenes was the speech by OTTER in the auditorium.
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 11:54 AM by ShortnFiery
Remember?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Otter: Point of parliamentary procedure!
Hoover: Don't screw around, they're serious this time!
Otter: Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon: I thought you were pre-med.
Otter: What's the difference?

Otter: Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.

Otter: But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

(Otter then leads the Deltas out of the hearing, all humming the Star-Spangled Banner)

------------------

Beautiful.

43. CT_Progressive, why aren't YOU running the Democratic Party?
Indeed, where IS the spirit and the guts? Where are the people willing to take the old rickety goat cart that's the Democratic "victory machine" and turn it into the Deathmobile?

Where is the Democrat willing to point it towards the people in the cheering section - Limbaugh, Coulter, O'Reilly and the Savage Weiner - rev the engine and yell "Ramming Speed!"

Until there is such a one, the Democratic Party won't gain any advocates and the Republicans will continue to win.
