Al Gore to make Indians aware of climate change

NEW DELHI: Ex-US vice-president Al Gore will be in India in the first week of December to conduct a two-day training programme on climate change.

His aim: To educate young Indians on environment and the dangers of global warming. Al Gore hopes these youngsters will sensitise people about the dangers of climate change.

He wants the youth to carry his message to dusty towns and villages of India and make corporates aware of their responsibilities. Al Gore Foundation has tied up with The Energy Research Institute (Teri) for the programme.

Teri executive director RK Pachauri is in New York to tie up the details. “The dates have not been finalised, though it will be in the first week of December,” he said.

~~~~~~
This is wonderful news because the people of India especially in those dusty towns need this information badly to feel empowered. It is precisely in the areas of the world feeling the brunt of the climate changes without contributing the most to them that the people who are mostly poor not only have little to no information about what climate change even is and what it does, they are powerless to address it. So thank you, Mr. Gore through your organization The Climate Project for putting this together. This is the kind of work that to me goes far beyond just being a "president." This goes to the heart of the matter om a personal level.
1. This is a global crisis
http://www.thewe.cc/weplanet/news/glaciers_melting.htm
No one bill just from DC is going to stop it now... but educating people who actualy live in these regions on how to conserve water and to empower them may just do a tremendous bit of good in dealing with this crisis. It will be Bali in December where a GLOBAL response to this crisis will have to be laid out. I truly hope Mr. Gore is an integral part of that process and that we move quickly.
2. Good. Maybe if we get India and China in a Kyoto-like treaty we could get some
support on Capitol Hill.
3. Yes, and to do that the people must be empowered to demand it
He knows what needs to be done, and I trust his judgement on this. Heis also bringing this to Spain, China, South America, and I hope Africa. This is truly remarkable work. And also at Bali both China and the US have to stop this, "I will if he does" BS. There are NO MORE IFS.
Former US Vice President Gore to speak at Turks and Caicos environmental conference
Published on Friday, September 7, 2007
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands: Former US Vice President Al Gore will be the keynote speaker of the first ever Environmental Conference hosted by the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands, in collaboration with the Ocean Conservancy and the National Coral Reef Institute, to examine the mutual interdependency between local actions and global initiatives.
The conference, “Fostering a Green Culture in Small Island Nations”, which will be held in Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands on November 18 through 20, 2007, will also serve as a venue for Ministerial Heads and Ministers of the Environment from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the British Overseas Territories to meet and discuss policy initiatives, legislative advancements, technological innovations and research that have been undertaken in environmental management in their respective countries.
Gore, will share his theme of Thinking Green: Economic Strategy for the 21st Century, arguing that the physical changes in our planet will eventually influence our global economy. He will encourage business audiences to consider broader issues – environmental, social and political – when planning economic strategy.
“We are honoured to bring together these distinguished leaders and organizations for a thoughtful discussion on the role the Caribbean Nations play in support of environmental sustainability in the coming millennium,” said Michael Misick, Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands. “It is our hope that this conference will result in policy initiatives and cooperation in environmental conservation and development in the Caribbean that will significantly impact the quality of life for our citizens.”
5. Mr. Gore In Israel Next Month
By GREER FAY CASHMAN
LESS THAN a month after 93.6 Ram FM broadcast "Live Earth," the global concert promoting environmental awareness, station manager Maysoun Odeh-Gangat attended a business meeting at the American Colony Hotel in Jerusalem, where he bumped into Environment Minister Gideon Ezra. Odeh-Gengat invited Ezra to participate in one of the station's talk shows. Ezra promptly accepted the invitation and in an interview on the Midmorning Show told Israelis and Palestinians how they could work together to prevent global warming.
WHILE ON the subject of global warming, former US vice president Al Gore, who is now making a career promoting global warming awareness and ecological threats in general, is scheduled to come to Israel in November to boost sales of his book The Inconvenient Truth, which laid the foundations for his documentary film of the same name. The Hebrew version is to be published by Ziblin Youth Communications.
Gore, who is currently working on another ecology-based book, has meanwhile launched a contest in Israel for the best one-minute commercial on the quality of the environment. The prize for the winning entry will be wide-ranging exposure in the US and possibly beyond. Even though there is no monetary incentive, the advertising agency that wins the contest will have a significant entry card to the American environmental market. Gore also wants to persuade the education authorities here to place greater emphasis on environmental subjects in school curricula.
~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the answer to begin bringing peace to this region. I have long believed that the water issue in the Middle East, particularly between Israelis and the Palestinian peoples was the true catalyst for much of the war in this region. I believe for Mr. Gore to go here as a global environmental ambasador to bring people together through working together to solve this crisis and to see all people in this area have water is one sure way to beginning a peace process for their children.

This is truly a great thing he is doing, and I am so filled up to see him finally using his knowledge, vision, and passion for the world to its fullest potential in being an emissary to those who need his knowledge and vision to bring them a new perspective on life and a new hope for their environmental future.

Of course, in the end it will have to be those leaders from Israel and the Palestinian territories as well as Jordan, Egypt, etc. that decide to come together to see their common moral purpose not only in providing water for all their peoples but in also working to mitigate drought and the effects of climate change. Can joining together in this urgent cause for their mutual survival work to end the decades of violence that have dessimated so much of this beautiful land?

We can only hope.

Thank you, Mr. Gore. You are truly an American we can be proud of.
