Vincente Fox admits: United currency a long term goal of Bush
He said it on Larry King last night. So much for "conspiracy theorists." At the pace things are going long term will be, like, next year.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0710/08/lkl.01.html

KING: E-mail from Mrs. Gonzalez in Elizabeth, New Jersey. "Mr. Fox, I would like to know how you feel about the possibility of having a Latin America united with one currency?"

FOX: Long term, very long term. What we propose together, President Bush and myself, it's ALCA, which is a trade union for all of the Americas. And everything was running fluently until Hugo Chavez came. He decided to isolate himself. He decided to combat the idea and destroy the idea...

KING: It's going to be like the euro dollar, you mean?

FOX: Well, that would be long, long term. I think the processes to go, first step into is trading agreement. And then further on, a new vision, like we are trying to do with NAFTA.

This isn't really conspiracy theory. It's been talked about for decades, now...when Boooooosh was still doing coke and getting shitfaced.

Frankly I think we should go back to the days when everybody had their own household money - or maybe barter. Just to be safe.

6. Very location dependent ...
I am an hour from the Canadian border, and while it is rare to see someone using Canadian money, it is not unheard of. Canadian change is VERY common since it is very similar to US change. I'm sure that same thing applies to folks who live in close proximity to Mexican border.

I have never seen a Peso (as far as I know) in the wild.

Cheers

21. I've never seen a Peso in circulation up here in MN....
I think it would be treated like a coin from Europe, China, Japan or anywhere else in the world. ("What is that?")

I seldom even see Canadian coins and have occasionally had them refused when they were in a handful of change.

Growing up in Detroit, across the river from Windsor, a little Canadian coin mixed in with U.S. and treated as equal was pretty common, though.

Is there another interest somewhere?

2) They will accomplish it by the process of centralization and consolidation. America wouldn't exist without that process.

35. Nothing. Sharing a common currency has been a good thing for Europe.
It has not damaged France, Germany or any other country and has not harmed the citizens of those countries. Germany is still Germany, France is still France. The fact that the bills in the wallets of Germans and French look different now does not change the nature of their societies.

Constitution is supposed to override any of the members own laws? Some countries are balking at that.

40. I know that. It is my understanding that the EU constitution has to be ratified
by popular votes in each country. France and, I think, the Netherlands rejected the constitution, so they have gone back to the drawing board. The French and Dutch evidently either rejected the idea of a common constitution or thought the EU constitution as proposed was not as good as the ones they already had.

With regards to a common currency, Europeans have this without having a shared constitution. They are separate issues. We seem to be linking the two together in this thread.

If it is only about unifying currency why are they working on creating a constitution and trying to get it ratified??? To control the countries within the EU.

45. The OP concerned the possibility of a North American common currency,
so I pointed out that Europe has a common currency and seems to function quite well.

There are people in Europe who would like to see it unified under a common constitution, but whether that comes to pass or not, they have a common currency and countries there have not lost their historical identities.

On a separate issue, if majorities in every EU country eventually believe that some version of an EU constitution is better than the constitutions they already have, they have that right. Given Europe's history of rivalry and warfare, I am not too surprised that there are some people there who favor more integration.
