So I was in this "country barf" store the other day...
I was in what I call a "country barf" store (all tin stars and Murkin flags and "pray" signs and "faith" tea towels), and right beside a fairly good selection of Halloween stuff (I got a great "Warning: Low-Flying Witchcraft" sign) there was a lot of "Happy Harvest!" stuff. For the crazy fundies who still think Halloween is eeee-vil and all that.

...And the funniest thing is the fundies, upon choosing "harvest" to avoid "Halloween", don't even know they're celebrating the true PAGAN nature of the holidays, appreciating the bountiful harvest that will get them through the winter!

Ahhhh I loves me some ignorance.

3. And of course how is Halloween any more pagan than Christmas?
Trees and yule logs and mistletoe - where do the fundies think those traditions came from, baby Jesus?

5. And better not mention that spring fertility rite aka "Easter".
Or do they think the Easter Bunny was present at the Resurrection?

8. Well, they've managed to make Jesus-links to lambs and eggs
So I wouldn't put it past 'em. Point out that Eostre is a goddess and dollars to Easter eggs they'll say it's another name for Mary. (Can you tell I survived years of Catholic school?) :eyes:

9. And Halloween is All Saint's Eve no doubt. Actually I am not Catholic but I have a lot more
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 03:17 PM by yellowcanine
respect for the Catholic Church tradition of latching unto pagan holidays and attaching church holidays to them - it is a way of accomodating "native" religions etc. - than I do the false piety of the fundy protestants who would try to force everyone to celebrate Christian holidays THEIR way and who would read all kinds of superstitious crap into what is after all, just a fun day for kids. Or worse, use Halloween as an excuse to create little evangelical horror houses designed to scare the crap out of teenagers to soften them up for the Gospel according to fundies.
