Chris Dodd just said the first thing he would do on the first day
of his presidency would be to restore the constitution. Kudos Sen. Dodd.

I doubt he meant it in the sense of the actual document.

7. That is a big area of concern for him.

He has done yeoman work trying to restore habeas corpus (and last time he and Leahy were getting closer to getting the votes). But I know this is the area where he would work to restore first if elected.

11. I hope that this helps!
"It's a sad day when a presidential candidate actually has to talk about restoring the Constitution, but that's where we are after this administration's assault on the rule of law - an assault, by the way, that actually makes us less secure and more isolated by weakening our stand around the world. I have said repeatedly that if elected, the first thing I would do after being sworn in is to reverse as much of the damage done to the Constitution by President Bush as possible. And I would immediately do as much as I legally can do by executive order."

I heard him discussing this in 2 different interviews on Ed Schultz's show over the past couple of months. I couldn't find anything on wegoted.com, but I googled to find this when someone else asked about it. I found it referenced on commondreams.com when an author was patting him on the back relating to their American Freedom Campaign.

My computer skills are more than lousy, but the long link to commondreams is www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/08/31/3536

While I totally agree with what he is saying, I am a little concerned, as I think that executive orders have been grossly abused. Educate the populace first, then hopefully they'll see the damage for themselves and will be screaming for a fix...but that's just me. :hi:

14. Good post.
Executive orders would fast track our return to the constitution and rule of law even though there has been an abuse of them and would be in my estimation a correct use of them.

10. A good way to start would be negate all
the laws they've made that circumvent the constitution, by challenging them in court and they'll be struck down as unconstitutional.
