Ads like this on DU make me think about moving on
I come to DU for Democratic chatter, good old fashioned flame threads and as a general escape from freepers.

Then I have to see this crap. An ad probably from a freeper company.

This really sucks.

I campaign against Hillary on DU every chance I get.

However, as a woman, I find the product being advertised on that ad to be unbelievably offensive and mysogynist. Making appeals to male neuroses about females is NOT "progressive" in my book.

That ad isn't "humorous", it's pathetic and juvenile and offensive.

Because it doesn't make fun of Hillary for political reasons.

17. Please contact mods/admin on any offensive ads so they can be removed.
A link would always be helpful. :hi:

The ads are served up by Google based on what we talk about here, not chosen by DU. The admins eliminate them as they are identified.

For example, the more we talk about a certain blonde, Republican commentator whose last name rhymes with "bolter", the more ads we'll see for those dreadful books she spews forth from time to time.

60. It actually relflects the cons thinking quite well.
They hate women. Plain and simple. Women are to be subservient to the man of the house. A woman that is outspoken is a ball buster. How odd that these men think their strength and character lie in their scrotum. And that women have the power to steal it. There is some weird, dark, sexual dysfunction going on there.

Even their women hate women. A couple weeks ago watching 'The Daily Show', I saw a Samantha Bee piece where she was interviewing a woman who said she doesn't think women should be president because they don't exude authority like men. I wonder if she complained about Margaret Thatcher, the 'Iron Lady'. Or maybe since Maggie was spouting right wing puke she gave her a pass.

61. It's "tradition"....
A key element of conservative thinking is if something is "traditional", it is good, so I don't think hatred is really the right word to describe their relationship with women. They have an anachronistic outlook on the position of women derived from the misguided social structures of the past, which they paint in a ridiculously romantic light. They hate feminism because feminism challenges the tradition of a male-dominated society, but I wouldn't say they hate women, or at least not all of them do.

As for the product in question, it is quite ridiculous. However, I don't believe that if one finds base humor entertaining, they are necessarily a misogynist, or should be condescended to. There are plenty of people who can sit through, and enjoy, a Kevin Smith movie or an episode of South Park without emulating the attitudes or behaviors of the characters they portray. The product is obviously a low blow, in attacking Hillary's personality over her readily-attackable record, but I would think people around here can appreciate the satire of it without generalizing to women as a whole. Now, I haven't been here too long, but I suspect if a good chunk of the DU regulars generalized this low brow interpretation of Hillary Clinton to women as a whole, there would at least be a few attacks on a similarly strong, outspoken, female politician, such as Barbara Boxer.

62. DU deserves the advertising revenue. This is not our church where we have
a whole lot of say in what we allow inside our hallowed halls.

Be thankful that DU's getting the revenue, and ignore it or turn it off.

66. Most DUers have already placed their orders.
But there's *no* sexism there, oh no, none at all...

67. That sexist ad is on our journal sites too!
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 07:09 AM by MethuenProgressive
Not funny.
What will carry the next DU endorsement?
Talking Richardson dolls? (Ugh! Me want Wampum!) or Obama Fried Chicken? (It's good, m'f'er!)
Oh, what? That's not funny? My posts "aren't meant for those without a sense of humor,"

68. there was also a Michelle Malkin ad a while back, but I have to say
I worked on website, and you sign on to an ad service to make money and you don't always have control over the individual ads that come up.

72. I haden't noticed it till this thread pointed it out.
it gave me a chuckle. (I am divorced) I didn't think of hillary in a disparaging light. I Thought of my ex wife. After reading the whole thread. it occurs to me that In our "Free" society. offensive material is entirely in the eye of the beholder. I like to tell jokes, I even tell disparaging penis jokes. If I were critical of them I would not repeat them. However they make the ladies laugh. Humor goes both ways. Truthfully, if one is offended by something meant to be humerous, they hold that subject disparaging to themselves.

76. Are you Joking ? ...
If that ad makes you think about "moving on", then please stop thinking and just move on.
You are of no use to the cause.

If you can't laugh at yourself, how to you expect anyone to take you seriously.

Cheers

I think it's funny, for what it's worth.

84. Oh good grief, lighten up
and spare those of us with a sense of humor all the PC nonsense.

It gives progressives- and feminists a bad name.

86. I usually click on ads I don't like
I understand that it costs them money if I do so. There was one advertising a 'beautiful poster of Ann Coulter'.

Anyone know?

89. That was funny!!! Thanks for pointing that ad out.
I never saw it because I block ads using the "No Script" plug-in with the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

If you hadn't pointed that out, I wouldn't have chuckled.

So, thanks!
