Stars and Stripes LTTE: Take Limbaugh off AFN
Take Limbaugh off AFN

Rush Limbaugh has proven he no longer deserves to be a voice the U.S. soldier, Marine, airman and seaman needs to hear.

How dare he attack a Purple Heart recipient (“Democrats chide Limbaugh over ‘phony soldiers’ remark,” article, Sept. 30)! He has lied about a (reported) butt boil that kept him out of Vietnam, he has lied about his prescription-drug use, and he is telling lies about decorated military members based merely on their insistence that poorly researched decisions have caused unnecessary U.S. deaths and injuries.

How often does an individual such as Limbaugh need to bite the hand that sustains the U.S. in foreign and domestic disputes before he is banned from American Forces Network Radio? “Rusty” Rush Limbaugh must be taken off the air by AFN.

How do I explain to my children that AFN Radio allows (such) individuals to disrespect honorably separated military members, severely wounded while protecting our way of life? It is hard enough to explain the dedication and resolve necessary to perform missions where an individual has an extremely high chance he will lose his life or be permanently maimed without having to try to find a reason why a questionable person such as Limbaugh can deride military members who have taken the mission of protecting our freedom at such sore cost to themselves.

He speaks disrespectfully of people I want my young sons to hold up as role models. Get him off the air, please.

5. But no one "supports the troops like I do"...
Limbaugh is a pariah; a coward; a despicable piece of trash.

Where was the "patriotism" he espouses when he could have served? Where is the respect for those who have served and been seriously maimed because of that service? If he had served, he would have tried to figure out a way to receive a PH for sitting down and popping his pilodial cyst.

Max Cleland, who, before he was horribly maimed in a tragic incident, was awarded a Silver Star becaue, as a Signal Captain, he braved fire to bring wounded soldiers during a firefight to safety. Odd how they never bring that up.

Bob Kerrey, awaded the Medal of Honor and lost a leg during an insertion, somehow is a "coward" who duped the Navy into awarding him the MOH...http://www.army.mil/cmh/moh.html

I have yet to hear about Limbaugh going to a VA hospital w/o an entourage of fawning friendly "press" to cover the event as a photo-op.

Odd, that a very quiet an humble Cher, w/o fanfare and hoping to keep here identity out of the equation, called WJ a couple of years ago to talk about the men and women in the VA. Her concern was evident, her passion real, and she spoke w/dignity about the sacrifices these men and women had made. I was never a Cher "fan", but when I heard that exchange, my respect for her skyrocketed. On the other hand, I've never had any respect for Limbaugh, and he found a way to ensure that he would fall even further in my view...pretty hard to do, as I had to lower "the bottom" even further.

7. Is it really true that Limbaugh is the only political show allowed on AFN?
This seems obvious, but if there is only one political show, shouldn't the host be somewhere near the center politically rather than way out in the weeds of far-right wackery? Especially the way Rush routinely insults our troops?

Or maybe I'm wrong and there is a centrist or liberal talk show available for our soldiers to hear. If there is one, I haven't heard about it.
