The right has done a great job of ignoring big stories (to us anyway), or at least igoring the seriousness of big stories, like the Downing St Memo, the Plame case (until more recently anyway), Dubya's drug use, Cheney shooting a guy in the face, and on and on and on. Perhaps they will chat about these things, but they never EVER take them seriously, even if they are serious things.

We, on the other hand, have been talking about Obama's blackness or lack thereof all week. We take every right-wing (and may-as-well-be-right-wing) talking point and make it something more - we make it legitimate by debating it, by even posting about it here.

Is it offensive and ridiculous for these wingnuts to say things like, say, the Glenn Beck comment? Of course it is. But the more we talk about it here, the more people who are not on our side are going to talk about it, because to them it will mean it's working.

It is their job to derail our candidates. It is our job to derail THEIR candidates.

What did Rudy Giuliani say or do yesterday that shows he'll be a bad president? John McCain? Sam Brownback? Mitt Romney?

What did GWB and his crew do to screw this country yesterday? What did they do to screw other countries?

What some prick reich-wing commentator says about Obama's blackness might be of passing interest, but comments like that are designed to pull US in, make US debate it, make US question Obama. Conservatives already aren't going to vote for him. Racists already aren't going to vote for him. Democrats are the ones that need to be turned against our candidates - don't let them do that to us.

This is just one example among many.

1. Why? Because we're....a metaphor for a little kitty cat, plural.
By we, I don't mean the people here. I mean the elected Democratic officials and the party apparatus supporting them. We are afraid of being "indiscreet." We want to be "fair." We want to be "even-handed." We want to be "losers."
