Flap leaves library pink and blue
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 08:49 AM by newyawker99
Grand Junction - It's all about pink paint, blue paint, mixing bowls, free speech, homosexuality and God.

All that's on a series of posters tacked on a back wall of the Mesa County Public Library.

The posters, the handiwork of Grand Junction resident Carol Anderson, have sparked protests from civil liberties groups and support from conservative Christians.

The Comedy Central cable channel's satirical "The Colbert Report" is considering a segment on the artwork.

"I would like to have more exposure," Anderson, 64, said. "But I'm not sure Comedy Central will be a good place to have the Lord's word heard."

The posters depict bowls - as a symbol of marriage - and the male as blue paint and the female as pink paint.

Pink and blue paint mixed in the bowl results in a "beautiful purple," according to a poster.

1. Has to be a contender for worst metaphor of the year.
This woman seems to feel that bowls of paint are what matters. If paints mix outside the bowl, chaos ensues. Really? Seems to me that paint outside the bowl is much more useful: it can paint a wall, for example, or a house. Paint inside the bowl, no matter what color it is, is useless.

Regarding the paint's color, pink and blue make purple. That's fine. Pink and pink make pink and blue and blue make blue. Which is better, a world with three colors in it or a world with only one?

Lame metaphor, lame thinking, lame brain.

I hope God tells her to go on Colbert, it'll prove He has a wicked sense of humor.

3. If I were you, Ms. Anderson, I would avoid Colbert
Your comment about the other poster, that: "It advocated for nontraditional families, including gay and mixed race." is gonna show the world who you really are.

6. Funny ... if the bowls represent "marriage"
(and a big point that righties make about marriage is that same-sex marriages do not produce children, a big reason for marriage), then:

One pink bowl and one blue bowl mixing (according to RW logic) would not result in one bowl of purple ... it would result in at least one pink or one blue bowl ... there might be multiples ... you could have 7 pinks or one blue or 3 blue and 1 pink, or ...

7. Ugh...
I don't want boys and girls characterized as "blue" and "pink."

As a matter of fact, I'm expecting a little girl and I've bent over backwards trying to buy her ANYTHING but pink. It's been my one pet peeve about having a girl - the way companies think I MUST have or HAVE to want pink for her.

Besides, if she has my coloring, she won't look good in pink, anway. :)

8. Are some of the blue bowls women?
Are some of the pink bowls men?

I know two pinks or two blues don't make beautiful people, I mean purple, but what would happen if a pink man got together with a blue woman? Would that still be a beautiful purple?

Why isn't it beautiful if the paints mix on the ground and get some dirt mixed in. I know this is all supposed to be a metaphor for marriage but it makes me think of sex, and I like my sex dirty, why is that not beautiful?

Carol Anderson your display is confusing me, I don't know what to think!

11. I'm all for mixing paint ...
Finger painting, body painting, even eating paint.

But when it's all done, we have the same old question: Who has to sleep on the wet paint spot?
