With Biden, I think it's about 1972.
Biden won his first term in the Senate that year. He won his state while McGovern lost the same state by, I think, seventeen points or so.

This probably shapes at least some of the suspicion and distrust Biden appears to feel towards some activists and the party's progressive wing.

He thinks he won IN SPITE of them and that he, not they, knows how to win.

That's my take on it.

1. Even if that's true, we're coming back.

5. I wasn't saying he was RIGHT to think that.
I just sense that that's part of his mindset.

2. Can you explain why Biden distrusts activists or progressives?
Did he say or infer that specifically?

7. I remember specifically reading a Village Voice interview
Where Biden talked about being at college, a few years before he ran, and seeing campus activists as "assholes".

And there's always been an arrogance he seems to project towards people like us.

10. I respect anyone who changes his ideas and opinion as he gets older, and
supposedly wiser. But I hear the arrogance, too, and/or an opinionated man. I just don't quite like him. I like Dodd better.

12. And the thing is, the point ot this thread isn't even to BASH Biden
As much as it is to try to explain the guy.

I would back him if nominated.

I wasn't accusing anyone of bashing.

Sorry if I managed to sound like I was attacking YOU. That wasn't what I meant by the post you responded to.

3. I doubt that he ever thinks like that.
As an accomplished Senator Bidden is well aware that "progress"is about winning.

The first rule of politics now,in the past and forever more is this:

You can't play if you don't win.

9. He actually strikes me as possibly the smartest guy in the room,
though he may not be the best candidate for president.
