Clear Channel CEO to Sen. Harry Reid: Go fuck yourself
http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/1007/Clear_Channel_CEO_responds_to_Reid.html

That's basically what Clear Channel's CEO said, in so many words.

<snip>
Clear Channel CEO Mark P. Mays responded to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in a letter hand-delivered to his office this evening.

"While I certainly do not agree with all views that are voiced on our stations, I will not condemn our talent for exercising their right to voice them," Mays wrote.

2. The CEO of Clear Channel does distance himself from rush to a degree
Last night Keith Olbierman and his guest discussed the letter and they commented on the fact that the CEO does not deny that rush made the comment (this is after he reviewed a real transcript) but instead focus on rush's intent. This is a standard way of putting some distance between the company and the true statements of the offending person.

I urge everyone to sign Gen. Wes. Clark petition to remove rush from Armed Forces Radio

4. Do you have a link to the Wes Clark petition?
I'd be tickled to death to urge his removal from the AFR.

3. Just ban all Clear Chanel programming from AFN.
If they won't police themselves then cut them off.

5. The Mays family seem to be big Republican Party/GW Bush contributors. Rush is just a frontman.

When private hands control so many of the voices on the public airwaves, we have a national propaganda machine. We need to be talking about the Mays family and their undue influence over our choices.

7. Between them, Murdoch and the Moonies...
that is how and why we got where we are today, in this deep downward spiral.

11. Yes, and without confronting the power of the business interests the downward spiral continues.

13. Including repealing the Telecom Act of 1996...
among other things. I don't look for that to happen though unfortunately.

on.

I find it difficult to even trace the controlling ownership of some of the multinationals.

I think even DUers get bogged down in fighting the media puppets instead of their owners.

6. His so-called "talent" is Rush Limbaugh...
so that tells you how much credibility this POS has. I HATE clear channel, I think they are a large part of what is wrong with this country, and I avoid listening to anything they own when at all possible.

I will sign Wes Clark's petition, if somebody can provide a link.

12. Interesting that he didn't give the Dixie Chicks the same courtesy
If individual stations had asked their listeners if the listeners wanted to hear the Dixie Chicks on-air and the listeners said no, then fine.

The heavy-handed call from above that Clear Channel made forcing all their stations to ban the DC's from the play-lists is what made that particular story front-page news.

17. The audience of the Rush show
is merely the base of the Republican party. Mainstream republicans left long ago. All he has left are abortion clinic bombers, keyboard warriors, inbreds and unemployed rednecks who blame the "illegals" for all of their ills. Let him have them. Rush gathers the dregs of society in one place.
