LA man arrested for trying to drown his pet Shih Tzu, police say
A man was arrested for investigation of animal cruelty after he tried to drown his dog in a bathtub for defecating on his carpet, police said Tuesday. Casey Purser, 19, was released on $45,000 bail.

Purser became angry Monday after one of his two dogs, a Shih Tzu named Toby, defecated on the carpet of his Van Nuys home in the San Fernando Valley, police said in a statement. He then threw the dog in a bathtub and attempted to drown it, police said.

A neighbor who saw the incident tried to rescue the animal, performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and rushing it to a local veterinary hospital, police said.

The dog was resuscitated with oxygen and its condition stabilized.

10. I tend to agree. Violence against animals at any age is a big warning sign.
Animals are, generally, pretty helpless. To commit such an act of violence against an innocent creature is an indicator of a mindset which is troubling at best.

5. No, he doesn't have any anger issues. None at all.
Next time there's no telling what damage he might do, or to whom.

I really hope the person who did this seeks out some kind of counseling before he goes off again.

16. there is NO excuse
but have you ever had one of them? I had the cutest little black and white female. She was marked like a skunk and I put her hair in a top knot. Yeah, I suck. Long story short, my friend Jeannette, called her the, Piss Tzu, instead of Shit Tzu. She was cute but the sneakiest little bitch on the planet. My oriental throw rugs were always stained with pee. She KNEW how to ask to go out and was taken out regularly. She didn't LIKE to go outside where the grass was cold and damp. I gave her to a very nice CNA at work who said she really liked the breed. I'm glad I could give her to a good home BEFORE I ever tried to drown her. I never ever saw her squat on the carpets. I never knew they were wet until I'd go to shake them. It's a wonder my hardwood floors weren't all ruined. That being said the guy should never have another dog.

17. People should think about this, especially those who don't get why it's a big deal
Mr. Purser is s sentient being, responsible for his own actions, and capable of dialectical reasoning.

I hope they throw the proverbial book at him. I hope he is forced to understand what it is to be in an environment where he cannot make choices for himself (including where and when he defecates), where he is dependent and at the mercy of unsympathetic masters of unpredictable wills.
