you know I get philosophical at this time of night...the need to be valued
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 09:54 PM by w8liftinglady
I look at the countless "thank you for giving me a heart" threads, and I'm reminded of the reasons I became a Democrat.
A poor,homeless family,striving for an existance...needs to be valued.
A gay man or woman, wanting to show their love openly, needs to be valued.
All citizens of the world, wanting to better themselves and their families, need to be valued.
Workers want to be able to practice their trade without intimidation-they need to be valued.
We need to know that our votes are valued, our elections are not corrupt

So often in our lives,we miss these opportunities to show our love for each other.Yet,when we do,it is a beautiful feeling.Thank you.

1. Thanks. If we all could remember that . . .
wouldn't the world be a different place?

4. I like how the Beatles put it
"And in the end, the love you take. Is equal to the love you make."

3. Yes, DU does seem to operate upon a system of values
alien to what the GOP/Libertarians have been preaching as long as I can remember.

7. Ah yes! I agree totally. Thus--my user name. And I lift weights, too! But
I'm not in your league. Just a scrawny sort of old woman trying to stave off osteoporosis!

8. IMHO dems value life.
We value life at the beginning and at the end. Our hearts break at injustice to one and all. Gay, straight, young, old, poor, rich, god, goddess, or no god. Our heart breaks for them all. We accept all. We argue and dispute, because of our diversities. But in the end we are the most accepting of the two party system. Our battle cry is simple, PEACE, TRUTH, EQUALITY for ALL. Very simple.

10. I had an epiphany when I wrote this thread Re: the need for love
society is such that we can't openly show our love and acceptance for each other. These threads have confirmed how desperate we are for that.

11. Yes, our whole society is desperate for love, and love is the only
thing that heals.

Here is a story I wasn't going to put out on the general board, because some seem put off by such sentiments, but it's my favorite piece at this time of year:

The Audacity of Humility

I walked up to an old, old mond, and asked him "What is the audacity of humility?"

This man had never met me before, but do you know what his answer was?

"To be the first to say 'I love you'".
