I Want To See Bruce Springsteen In The U.S. Senate
Is there a race in New Jersey in 2008?

I like both Lautenberg and Menendez, but can you imagine the Boss speaking on the Senate floor?

I have no particular affection for Tim Russert's haircut, but imagine if we had someone saying stuff like this on the Senate floor.

It's really about what's happening now, right now. It's kind of about the things we love about America -- cheeseburgers, french fries, the Yankees battling Boston, the Bill Of Rights, V-Twin motorcycles, Tim Russert's haircut, trans-fats, the Jersey shore. About we love all those things the way women folk love on Matt Lauer. That's right. But in the past six years, we've had to add to the American picture renditon, illegal wiretapping, voter suppression, no habeas corpus, and the neglect of our great city New Orleans and her people, an attack on our Constitution, and the loss of our best young men and women in a tragic war. This is a song about things that shouldn't happen here happening here. So right now we plan to do something about it. We plan to sing about it. I know it's early, but it's late! So come join us. Max, gimme...

Has Springsteen ever shown any willingness to run for office? I wish he would.

1. That Would Be Great
and the Senate wouldn't be half as dull.

2. Hopefully Al Franken will knock off Norm Coleman in Minnesota
I don't think Franken actually comprehends the enormity of the threat of BushCo, but he would definitely liven up the Senate.

3. Al Is Great Too
Don't see how he could lose. May this be the beginning of taking our party and country back.

5. I hope Al wins
This cycle may be our last hope. If it's not over already.

Franken is great. But I think he has his head partially buried in the sand. He just can't comprehend how bad things really are. He knows things are bad. But he, I fear, has no clue just how bad.

4. Honestly, he doesn't inspire me as a Senator. But then, I'm not from NJ.
If the people there want him, well, that's their choice.

Do "women folk" really love Matt Lauer? And people love trans-fats? Most folks I know avoid them like the plague!

6. I think he was being sarcastic.

Perhaps he left out the :sarcasm:

:D

Springsteen is true blue, and would represent our country well, in my opinion.

7. Hard to tell. I've heard that Springsteen for Senate theme before.
Just because people can sing and support causes doesn't always a legislator make.

But as I said, I'm not from NJ, so it ain't up to me.

9. What do you really dislike about Springsteen?
He's smart. He cares.

Or so it seems to me.

To what do you object?

Just wondering,

11. Look, I said it ain't up to me. I'm not from NJ. Whaddaya want?
I thought Sonny Bono was an amusing singing icon from the sixties, and a lousy legislator, too.

Just because someone can belt out a tune and toss out a few nice platitudes doesn't mean they'll make a great lawmaker.

I don't get the impression that there's a lot of 'there' there. He seems like a well-meaning fellow, sincere, but a bit of a lightweight to me.

I'm sure your mileage varies.

14. I'm not sure what about Springsteen seems "lightweight"
I think he seems pretty smart.

What makes you think Springsteen's a "lightweight?"

Because he doesn't have a degree to match George W. Bush's?

I think Springsteen is pretty clued in.

His family didn't buy his degree.

Springsteen has made his own fortune, and STILL speaks the truth.

He said "It's early, but it's LATE."

If that's not good enough for you, then you are not good enough for me. Sorry.

16. Matt Lauer and the women folk, the NY Yankees....
Anyone with a goddamn brain knows this country has problems. That knowledge doesn't necessarily qualify one for a seat in the legislature.

Look, it's plain your mileage varies. How many times do I have to repeat that it ain't UP to me? I'm not a NJ resident. I don't intend to be one. Thus, I wouldn't vote for the fellow even if his name appeared on a ballot.

And no, that canned 'early/late' remark wasn't 'good enough' for me. Ergo, I'm not good enough for you, then. Pardon me while I go sob into my pillow over that overwhelming revelation of yours....

Well, I'm over that, then!!!

Now will you leave me the fuck alone?

Sheesh, expressing an opinion around here is like a fucking contact sport, especially when you gore a sacred ox, apparently. Have fun worshipping at the altar of Springsteen.

13. Are we playing fantasy Senate? Should we each come up
with a liberal celebrity from our respective states? OK.

Trey Anastasio for U.S. Senator from Vermont!!

Nah, I think I'll stick with Leahy and Sanders.

17. Maybe Jimmy Buffet To Run For The FL Senate
He probably has more political experience, working with Bob Graham on the "Save The Manatee" campaign...

How about Don Henley?

He performed at Clinton's Inaugural...

So did Michael Stipe and Natalie Merchant...

How about Stevie Wonder?

I saw him campaigning with Al Gore...

My favorite is Morgan Freeman... He's kindly and always has sage advice...

Do you see where this is going?

Oh, how about Michael Douglas?

He actually was the president, in a movie...
