Kristol’s Dark Humor: Bush’s ‘Heartless Assault On Our Children’ Is ‘A Good Idea’

On Fox News Sunday this morning, NPR’s Mara Liasson said that President Bush’s expected veto of an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which passed both the House and Senate on a strong bipartisan basis, will be seen as “a heartless blow against children.”

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, who supports Bush’s veto, laughingly joked:

First of all, whenever I hear anything described as a heartless assault on our children, I tend to think it’s a good idea. I’m happy that the President’s willing to do something bad for the kids.

Kristol then disparaged yesterday’s Democratic Radio Address, delivered by a 12-year-old boy named Graeme Frost who had received care under the SCHIP program, calling it “pathetic.” “You really wonder how stupid they think the American people are,” concluded Kristol. Watch it at link~

NPR’s Juan Williams rebutted Kristol’s callous approach to children’s health care. “When you have 3.7 million uninsured children in America, you know you have a crisis,” said Williams. He then ripped Kristol’s disparagement of the Democratic Radio Address as hypocritical because conservatives “use soldiers and everything else to bolster their arguments”:

WILLIAMS: I’m surprised to hear you say, “Oh, how dare you use a child.” What do Republicans do except use soldiers and everything else to bolster their arguments.

KRISTOL: Soldiers aren’t children.

WILLIAMS: Oh come on. Yeah, use uniforms and everything else. And in fact, put on — politicians get in uniforms and get on ships to talk about “missions accomplished.” C’mon.

The expansion of SCHIP that Bush is threatening to veto would extend coverage to 4 million children who would otherwise be uninsured.

1. I challenge them to take it further.. and include all Americans...
What will the children do when their parents are dying around them... We'll have generations of orphans, ready, for war.

3. Kristol is a brutal warmonger. Dead children are "collateral damage" to him.

If he doesn't give a rat's ass whether children live or not (except to grow up to be soldiers in his wars of choice), he can't be expected to care whether American children get medical care.

He's rich. So are his acquaintances. The hell with everybody else.

Bill Kristol is among the most reprehensible "human beings" on the face of this earth.

4. It's past time for Kristol to catch a beating
I'm tired of him carrying that frozen grin and nervous chuckle with impunity. He needs to experience an incoming rocket up close and personal like Wolfowitz did. I'd love to see him crying and doing the pantload crabwalk. Nothing serious, just a small taste of the terror he continues to inflict on millions daily.

7. unfortunately, we only ruthless with the defenseless...
in the movie 'high noon' marshal gary cooper realized the hopelessness of the situation viz the danton brothers- who like kristol are short fused time bombs who make Yosemite Sam (a hero, btw) and Tasmania Devil look like hippies- and instead of fighting them off by organising the townfolk instead organised a welcoming committee complete with flowers to strew in their paths.
i think that's how the movie went.
i like the part when the marshal ran fer the hills while hero kriston/danton kicked up dirt near his heels. with his 6 gun! it was SOOOOOO FUNNY!

5. Bill Kristol comes to mind
when I hear Phil Collins "If you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand". In fact, Bill, I'd throw you a big rock. You could stand on it. As a conservative, I'm sure you wouldn't want or expect anything more than that.

6. As far as Bill Kristol is concerned
it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he would keep talking on live television... Luke 17:2
