Minneapolis Airport to be "craig-proofed"!
Airport to Overhaul Men’s Room Stalls

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/29/us/29stall.html?ref=us

By THE NEW YORK TIMES
Published: September 29, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 28 —

Dividers intended to make soliciting sex much more difficult will be added to stalls
in two men’s rooms at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The metal dividers
will fall two or three inches above the floor, an airport spokesman, Patrick Hogan, said
Friday. Stall partitions are now a foot off the floor. The two restrooms include the one
where Senator Larry E. Craig, Republican of Idaho, was arrested in a sex sting in June.
Those two sites have elicited the most complaints regarding sexual activity, Mr. Hogan said.

It will cost about $25,000 to buy and install the dividers, he said, calling that “a drop
in the bucket” compared with the expense of prosecuting Mr. Craig on a disorderly conduct
charge and handling the 40 arrests made in sexual solicitation cases since May.

1. But that's only 2 out of 80 of them.
So Senator Craig still changes planes at MSP in order to get back to Idaho, he'll have to play footsie in one of the other 78.

2. Yeah but that was his favorite, he said.
He'll just have to find another way, I guess.

6. Ummm... The GOP convention will be in Minneapolis/St.Paul.
How delightful is that? All those Repubs having to fly to MSP, and many of them will have to walk right past the Larry Craig Memorial Bathroom in order to get to the escalators to baggage claim.

The irony is delicious.

9. If the airport managers were smart
They would put up a sign at the bathroom entrance designating it at the Larry Craig bathroom, and charge $5 admittance to see where he got busted. Yes, I'm serious.

10. Does anybody know
why the airport got the reputation in the first place. That every gay person in the country goes there for sex.

11. Because they were getting complaints left and right from the public.

I think one woman got really pissed off when she sent her young son in and that's
what he was confronted with when he went in there. They've arrested 40 people since
May for doing the Craig wide stance and toe tapping shindig in that bathroom! :P

16. Wow, why did she send her young child in there alone?
They have family restrooms at the MSP airport. Failing that, she could have taken her young boy into the ladies room, I don't think anyone would have minded!

14. Where's that 25K going?
Into some contractor's pocket, probably. Stall dividers for 2 bathrooms, $25K... why doesn't anyone care some fat cat is pocketing all that cash? Same thing as stealing as far as I'm concerned.

15. One of those bathrooms has like 2 dozen stalls
I don't believe it is two stalls they are talking about.

18. How do you know that? 24 sounds a bit high.
Edited on Sun Sep-30-07 02:28 AM by djohnson
Maybe 12 stalls per bathroom, but 24?? Regardless, it's still too high. Apparently I am the only one who cares about the greedy bastard somewhere in this supply chain.

19. Because I flew in and out of that airport for a decade and a half
It's the main facility, as I recall it has to be at least a dozen as you say. Regardless, point being it's not just two stalls.

20. My point is that the OT is a joke, but stealing $25K pisses me off
Maybe it takes a funny news article to raise awareness of how contractors steal left and right.

He'll rise to the occasion, seeing as sex is such a powerful motivator. ;-)

He'll come up with something.
