I'm assuming you've all seen this ...
Edited on Sat Sep-29-07 02:35 AM by LaStrega
But in case you haven't, here it is from MoveOn.org:

"Dear MoveOn member,

In the past week, Congress has voted down three separate proposals that would have supported our troops and helped end the war.1 But yesterday, the House did manage to join the Senate in condemning MoveOn.2

When the only thing our elected representatives can agree on is to silence war critics, it's time to get louder.

Congress may not be doing its job. But that means it's all the more important for the 3.3 million of us to do ours. We need to make it crystal clear that we will not stand down or relent until the war ends.

So we're launching Americans for Exit, a powerful new project that will remind our representatives that those of us against the war are America—we're teachers, factory workers, lawyers, moms, dads, students, secretaries, and dog owners. We're 70% of the country, we vote, and we're fed up with the war.

Here's how it works: You send us a picture of you which shows how you feel about the war. Then, you'll record a voice message to Congress. We'll put together a big unveiling, use your photos and words in an ad campaign and deliver them to your members of Congress. We'll make it impossible for them to ignore you. Click here to get started:

http://pol.moveon.org/photo?id=11300-8537405-ZPVHt0&t=5

Participating is really easy—all you need to do is take a digital photo of yourself with a message to Congress about ending the war. You can use one of the signs we provide at the link above, or you can make your own. Feel free to get creative: You can write your message on paper or on your t-shirt—whatever you want. Just make sure it's legible and appropriate for the many audiences that will see these photos.

Then you can submit your photo to us at the link above and we'll combine all the photos and get them ready to deliver.

There's also a neat twist to this project: After you submit your photo you can call an 800 number and record a message to Congress. We'll go through the recordings and broadcast them. We'll make sure members of Congress and the media hear what you have to say.

Click below to show Congress who you are and how you feel:

It's particularly important to show the breadth and depth of opposition to the war right now, when Republicans are going all-out to marginalize and silence us. Recently, several MoveOn members in Rochester, NY wrote an op-ed for their local paper that drives home why this is so critical. Here's an excerpt:

Recently much media attention has focused on MoveOn.org, and some misinformation has been conveyed as fact. To set the record straight, members in the Rochester area would like to introduce ourselves to the community at large. Consistently and falsely portrayed by some media sources as "far left," we represent a broad cross-section of average Americans.

Nationally, we are over 3.3 million strong. Operationally, we have harnessed the Internet as a forum to debate, select, vote on and prioritize member-driven issues and strategies...

Locally, we are teachers, engineers, law enforcement officers, carpenters, doctors, graphic designers and retirees. We are your friends, neighbors and relatives. We live in the suburbs, city and country. And we care deeply about the same issues most Americans do, and are proud to use the organizational power of MoveOn.org to carry out our responsibilities as citizens.

We care that this administration ignored pleas from the world community and invaded Iraq without moral or legal basis. The result has been devastation and quagmire in Iraq, an increase in global terrorist violence and a more dangerous world. We are dedicated to bringing our troops safely home and rebuilding the international alliances necessary to address the real terrorist threat. And as the media have amply reported, this is the view of the great majority of Americans.3

Well said. Let's show Congress who we are—and that we're pushing harder than ever to end the war. Please submit a photo today:

http://pol.moveon.org/photo?id=11300-8537405-ZPVHt0&t=7

Thanks for all you do.

–Nita, Joan, Justin, Karin, and the MoveOn.org Political Action Team

P.S. They didn't condemn Vice President Cheney when he falsely connected Al Qaeda to Saddam Hussein. They didn't condemn Colin Powell when he lied about WMD to the United Nations. They didn't condemn President Bush when he started eavesdropping on American citizens without a warrant. They still haven't done anything to change President Bush's war policy. But yesterday, the House voted to condemn a newspaper ad—and Congressman John Kline supported the measure. Please call and tell him to stop voting on useless resolutions and focus on forcing an end to the war.

I'm still trying to figure what I'll be sporting in my photo. Mebbee my "Bush Lied, Thousands Died ~ ImpeachBush.org" sweatshirt? It is getting to be sweatshirt weather here in Minnesota.

This one won't do, though it does represent how I feel about the whole Iraq quagmire:

edit: I got paid today ... I just gave them another $25. If you're able, please give.

2. Like I said...
"We're not just going to dry up and blow away."

Since the beginning of the Bush Administration, several different political organizations have sprung up, ones dedicated to telling the truth about what's going on out there in the wide, wild world that the corporate media cannot or will not. This latest debacle with MoveOn.org is a prime example of how Americans will rise to the challenge and support any organization that has the courage and the foresight to raise a ruckus when confronted with deception and doublespeak.

But the list is rather long. Some organizations are older than the Bush Administration, and perhaps they don't get as much press, but they're just as vigilant, just as serious, and at least as competent in ferreting out the truth behind the pretty lies.

Sometimes truth is harsh. Sometimes it's dirty, smelly, and sometimes it just lies there on the front lawn reeking. Those of us on the left (and, no, we're not, by any means, "far-left--unless, of course, you're so far to the right that you're hanging off the edge of reality by your fingernails), are not going to be silenced by the condemnation of the Republicans and Democratic quislings in Congress.

It doesn't matter if they don't like what we have to say. Condemnation will make us louder, not quieter. We won't tolerate lies, bullying tactics, or attacks on our 1st Amendment Rights. Like Henry Rollins said, the only way to protect free speech is to use it.

Amen.

If they don't like what we have to say, we have only one response: "Good!" Censure us, condemn us, try to shout us down, and we'll keep popping back up like shrieking moles in a carnival game. Opposition strengthens us because it tells us we're on the right path. We're unsettling the settled, disturbing the comfortable, and that's what we SHOULD be doing. This is NO time to be comfortable. It's a time to be wary, and nervous, and occasionally paranoid.

There are forces within our government that loathe democracy, for all that they say they're trying to spread it. They don't want to hear our voices, they don't want to suffer the results of our openly voting against their agenda. They will pull just about anything out of their bag of dirty tricks to gain the opportunity to silence us and everyone else like us.

But as long as we have our Constitution, we'll use it to stand in opposition to them. We'll offend them, we'll annoy them, and we'll break ourselves against the wall of their deceptions if we have to. Again and again and again.

We're not going away, we're not going to shut up, and we're never, ever, going to stop until we are dead. And even then others will take our places.

I think I'm gonna do the sweatshirt thingy.

Yay for DU! And thanks for the welcome!

Um ... here's a *duh* moment ... I wanted to light a candle for Stacey ... I couldn't figure how. And I work on computers for a living. I'm feeling very blonde (no offence to blondes worldwide honest).

How do I light a candle? Ugh.

I'm off to feel like a flippin' luddite for a while.

7. Don't you have to go to that website in the OP
to light a candle?

What photo? Where did you post it?

You don't need any code to post a photo on DU, just the jpg location. ;)

16. Just click on an unlit candle. They need to provide that simple instruction
as you are not the only one who has had that question. I asked it myself a couple of years ago, and noticed at least one other in the thread about Stacey asking it. I don't know why they assume people will know what to do or why a 5-word instruction is so impossible to insert on the page.

I certainly felt a sudden spurt of generosity toward MoveOn.org - twice in one week!

And when I sign petitions or send email or other messages to Congress, or call them up, I identify myself as one of their base - a proud MoveOn.org Dem. And sometimes I think it's also useful to remind them that MoveOn.org - NOT the DCCC or DSCC or even DNC, nor any candidate - is getting all my donation money now. When they start showing spine, they'll start getting some of my money again, too.

'Cause I'm ONLY buying BACKBONE these days.
