5. Alan Berg and I used to listen to him all the time, he was not a liberal in

the understanding that most people have of the label. As I said, I listened to him often and from what I could tell, the only people he didn't hate were the Israelis, and the worst thing he had to say about the republiks was that they never went far enough.

He would have loved the Amerika we live in today.

8. Yeah, but the last I knew, hate was not a liberal trait, and he really hated everybody.

Sometimes I was sure he would die right on the air, you could hear his face turning purple while he screamed about whatever it was that pissed him off that day. He made Malloy sound catatonic.

When the news reported his murder, my reaction was, "I'm surprised it took so long", later it struck me as supremely ironic that he was killed by a hate group. On the plus side, they didn't kill his Old English Sheepdog that was in the car when he pulled into his driveway.

His on-air personality, anyway. When I heard that he'd been shot, I assumed it had been an insulted caller or someone who knew him personally who had done it.

It was one of the inspirations for Eric Bogosian's Talk Radio. Not a great film, but not bad if you like Bogosian...
