Hooley Resolution Calls on Bush Administration to Cooperate with Congressional Investigations
Hooley Resolution Calls on Bush Administration to Cooperate with Congressional Investigations
Submitted by davidswanson on Fri, 2007-09-28 03:59. Congress

54 Original Cosponsors Join Hooley in Urging Past and Current Officials to Testify --

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Darlene Hooley (OR-5) introduced a resolution calling on President Bush to urge current and former Administration officials to comply with congressional oversight investigations. With the support of 54 original cosponsors, Hooley’s resolution is similar to one adopted overwhelmingly by the House on May 21, 1998 during the Clinton Administration (H. Res. 433, passed by a vote of 342-69-12).

On March 20, 2007, President Bush declared that he would oppose any attempts to subpoena White House officials for congressional investigations. White House Counsel Fred F. Fielding has repeatedly told Congress that the President will invoke executive privilege for any oversight attempts by Congress. The White House also announced that it would order the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia not to present the contempt of Congress citation for grand jury consideration.

“President Bush continues to stonewall Congress by hiding behind a blanket claim of executive privilege,” said Hooley. “As an equal branch of government, Congress must pursue its oversight responsibilities and hold the Bush Administration accountable for providing testimony and documents crucial to on-going investigations.”

Original Cosponsors include:

Rep. John Murtha, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, Rep. Alcee Hastings, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Rep. Peter DeFazio, Rep. Lincoln Davis, Rep. Anna Eshoo, Rep. Bob Filner, Rep. Baron Hill, Rep. Tom Allen, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, Rep. Kathy Castor, Rep. Mazie Hirono, Rep. Jim McGovern, Rep. Mike McIntyre, Rep. Danny Davis, Rep. Dennis Moore, Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay, Rep. Gwen Moore, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, Rep. G.K. Butterfield, Rep. Dennis Cardoza, Rep. Lloyd Doggett, Rep. Sam Farr, Rep. John Hall, Rep. Maurice Hinchey, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, Rep. John Lewis, Rep. Jim McDermott, Rep. John Olver, Rep. Ed Pastor, Rep. Mike Thompson, Rep. Nydia Velazquez, Rep. David Wu, Rep. Xavier Becerra, Rep. Diane Watson, Rep. Anthony Weiner, Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Rep. Bill Pascrell, Rep. Mike Ross, Rep. Steven Rothman, Rep. Linda Sanchez, Rep. John Spratt, Rep. Bart Stupak, Rep. Ellen Tauscher, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep. Robert Brady, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, Rep. Neil Abercrombie, Rep. Jay Inslee, Rep. Michael Capuano, Rep. Tim Ryan, Rep. Brian Higgins, Rep. John Tierney

2. Please, Mr. Little Boots, play nice. We're willing to share our toys
and candy money with you. But you gotta play nice. Here, you can even have some more Monopoly money and toy soldiers. Look, we'll even let you play in the sandbox all by yourself, and you can have my lunch while you play with the Tonka tanks too.

What is wrong with these people? Posturing won't work. WE NEED SOME ACTION!

3. How similar?
"similar to one adopted overwhelmingly by the House on May 21, 1998"

This is a point to make when Repugs nay say it. After all, if they supported it when Clinton was in office, why wouldn't they now? Ask them (live and on camera) for an honest answer to this question, Mr. or Ms. MediaTypePerson:

Which is more injurious to the Nation; An unchecked Presidency running roughshod over the Constitution, or a Blowjob on the Oval Office?

Let the American People see how wide a stance they take.

PS: I won't be holding my breath for this to happen.
