Demand that Rush Limbaugh be taken off the Armed Forces Radio Network, IMMEDIATELY
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 09:54 PM by fedupinBushcountry
My husband spent 20 years in the Navy and has been to war (Vietnam-2 tours). I was an Ombudsman for 2 of my husband's ships making sure that the sailors and their loved ones were kept up to date on the ship's activities. We served our country as so many have.

Where does Rush Limbaugh get off calling our soldiers 'phony', as he sits his boiled ass in an air-conditioned room spewing hate all day and never had the courage to serve.

He owes EVERY soldier an apology and he should be taken off the air of the Armed Forces Radio Network. IMMEDIATELY! You can go here to make your http://armedforcesradionetwork.org/supplies.html">statement

Rush Limbaugh is the biggest 'phony' of all, he had no Balls to serve.

Edited to add http://armedforcesradionetwork.org/feedback.html">Feedback link

As it bloody well should, too.

This is the perfect sh*tstorm for poor widdle Rushie McLimbaugh.

And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

19. I just did that.

I am not a member of the military. And in fact I oppose the invasion in Iraq. I do so because it is unnecessary. It put our troops, and the civilians of Iraq, in unneeded harms way. But I never criticize the soldiers for that. However, it has come to my attention that someone with a great responsibility has done just that. You know already who I am talking about. And this man has great power of using our airwaves with our permission. But he has violated our trust by criticizing more than just a few soldiers. Rush Limbaugh called our brave men "phonies". This goes far beyond anything I can accept. I have never even considered contacting the Armed Forces Radio until this. I urge you to eliminate Mr. Limbaugh from your programming lineup. He is not a healthy influence on our troops.
Thank you.

Senator, you were so quick to condemn Moveon.org, I hope you are similarly outraged about the comments that Rush Limbaugh made calling the soliders "phonies" and will quickly introduce a bill to condemn Rush Limbaugh and have him removed from the Armed Forces Radio Network.

Again, as I have called your office and left my opinon previously:
U.S. out of Iraq
Keep the U.S. out of Iran

Let's work on our own issues and stop spending almost $200 Billion on destroying other parts of the world. We need health care, education and infracture here in the U.S.

51. My letter to Armed Forces Radio
28 September 2007
Armed Forces Radio

Dear Sir(s):

I take exception to Mr. Rush Limbaugh's reference to our soldiers as "phony." Although I did not serve in the armed forces, my dad was career Navy and my uncle is a retired Air Force general, so "supporting the troops" was a given in my family. I was taught to honor the service of those Americans who serve in the United States armed forces.

It was bad enough when Rush and his ilk showed contempt for Sen. Max Cleland and Sen. John Kerry by questioning their military service. I was shocked at the treatment of these two brave veterans by Rush. I never thought I would ever see the day that two recipients of military honors, including the Purple Heart, would receive such disrespectful treatment.

Now for Rush to call our soldiers fighting in Iraq as "phony" is beyond belief. And it should not be tolerated. I hope you will reconsider airing his radio show on your network.

Our troops deserve better--much, much better.

Sincerely,
name
place

Now, on to my Senators!

1924993, Update: Kerry calls on Republicans to condemn Limbaugh's statement; Gen. Clark sends your messages
Posted by ProSense on Thu Sep-27-07 06:26 PM

Kerry's statement:

"This disgusting attack from Rush Limbaugh, cheerleader for the Chicken Hawk wing of the far right, is an insult to American troops. In a single moment on his show, Limbaugh managed to question the patriotism of men and women in uniform who have put their lives on the line and many who died for his right to sit safely in his air conditioned studio peddling hate. On August 19th, The New York Times published an op-ed by seven members of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division critical of George Bush's Iraq policy. Two of those soldiers were killed earlier this month in Baghdad. Does Mr. Limbaugh dare assert that these heroes were 'phony soldiers'? Mr. Limbaugh owes an apology to everyone who has ever worn the uniform of our country, and an apology to the families of every soldier buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He is an embarrassment to his Party, and I expect the Republicans who flock to his microphone will now condemn this indefensible statement."

Wes Clark get's into the act, from Jon Soltz diary at Daily Kos:

UPDATE: If you want to help me get on Rush's show, please click here to send Rush a letter. Wes Clark will send your message directly to Rush Limbaugh!

George Bush Must Condemn Rush Limbaugh (Update)
by AllDemsOnBoard
Fri Sep 28, 2007 at 08:45:49 AM PDT

Limbaugh makes a despicable comment about real soldiers and the wingnuts and Republicans go AWOL! Has anyone one heard anything from the " pretend to support the troops, condemn MoveOn" contingency? Where is George Bush? He was outraged last week.

* AllDemsOnBoard's diary :: ::

Bush: MoveOn.org ad on Petraeus 'disgusting'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A MoveOn.org political advertisement that criticized the top U.S. commander in Iraq was "disgusting," President Bush said Thursday, accusing Democrats of being afraid to criticize the anti-war group.

Bush told reporters at a White House news conference that MoveOn.org's ad in The New York Times about Gen. David Petraeus was a "sorry deal." The September 10 full-page ad was titled "General Petraeus or General Betray Us?"

"I felt like the ad was an attack, not only on Gen. Petraeus, but on the U.S. military," Bush said. "And I was disappointed that not more leaders in the Democratic Party spoke out strongly against that kind of ad."

Bush said that "most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group like MoveOn.org" and they "are more afraid of irritating them than they are of irritating the United States military."

Well Mr. Bush, right wing cheerleader Rush Limbaugh just attacked the military. He has branded the troops you're sending to fight your war in Iraq "phony soldiers." Will you speak out strongly against him and call him "disgusting" and a "sorry deal"?

Where is John Cornyn?

Limbaugh is a partisan hack who continues to disparage members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. So why is he still on taxpayer-funded American Forces Radio Network?

The Democrats, who suffered a deep drilling over the MoveOn.org newspaper ad that called Gen. David Petraeus “General Betray Us,’’ have been laying in wait for a chance to pounce on Republicans for betraying the troops.

And they have found it in a traditional foil, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, who made a passing comment this week about his attitude towards soldiers who oppose the war in Iraq, calling them “phony soldiers.’’

Democrats pounced in unison, with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee launching a salvo against Limbaugh. “Rush Limbaugh’s personal attack on our men and women in uniform is reprehensible,’’ Rep. Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the Democrats’ campaigns for Congress, said last night. “It minimizes the sacrifice our troops in Iraq and their families are making and has no place in the public discourse.

“Rush Limbaugh owes our military and their families an apology for his hurtful comments that minimize their service to our country,’’ Van Hollen continued.
...........

And to round out the chorus of criticism for Limbaugh, Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee and a staunch opponent of the war who campaigned against it in his bid for the party’s presidential nomination in 2004, spoke out.

“Rush Limbaugh should immediately apologize to our brave men and women in uniform for undermining the sacrifices they make every day serving our country,’’ Dean said in a statement issued last night. “Limbaugh's comments were un-American, have no place in the public discourse, and show just how far he'll go to defend President Bush's failed policy in Iraq. America's troops deserve better, and Limbaugh owes them an apology."

So there: Limbaugh’s apology will roll around just about the time the Democratic Party apologizes for MoveOn.org.

But the fallout from MoveOn ad may last a lot longer than the brush fire over the overheated rhetoric of Radio Limbaugh.

Rep. Jan Schakowsky: “Our retired General William Oden, the head of the National Security Agency during the Reagan administration, his advice, quote: ‘the sensible policy is not to stay the course in Iraq, it is rapid withdrawal, re-establishing strong relations with our allies… General Oden says that until the US withdraws from Iraq, and admits a strategic error, no such coalition can be formed, thus those who fear leaving a mess are helping make things worse while preventing a new strategic approach with some promise of success. Does Rush Limbaugh really want to look General Oden in the eye and call him a phony? … And while we’re at it, let’s pay attention to the 72% of american troops serving in iraq who also think the US should exit the country within the next year and more than one in four who say the troops should leave immediately according to the Zogby poll. I guess they’re all a bunch of phonies according to Rush Limbaugh.”

Democrats Blast Limbaugh For Saying That Antiwar Troops Are "Phony Soldiers"

By Greg Sargent - September 27, 2007, 6:16PM

As we reported earlier today over at The Horse's Mouth, Rush Limbaugh said on his radio show that soldiers who favor U.S. withdrawal from Iraq are "phony soldiers."

The assertion -- reminiscent of MoveOn's attack on Petraeus, which generated enormous controversy when Republicans attacked the group -- has the potential to be equally explosive, since some troops who are currently fighting in Iraq, and a handful who have died there, have questioned the war in the media.

Now Dems are stepping forward to blast his remark. First up: the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Here's the statement just released by DCCC chief Chris Van Hollen:

“Rush Limbaugh’s personal attack on our men and women in uniform is reprehensible. It minimizes the sacrifice our troops in Iraq and their families are making and has no place in the public discourse. Rush Limbaugh owes our military and their families an apology for his hurtful comments that minimize their service to our country.”

A Challenge For Lawmakers Who Voted To Attack MoveOn Ad: Will They Now Condemn Limbaugh?

On September 20, 72 Senators voted for the highly politicized, “bait and switch” resolution that condemned a newspaper ad by MoveOn.org. The amendment, offered by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), expressly stated that the Senate would condemn “any effort to attack the honor and integrity” of “all members of the United States Armed Forces“:limbaugh

(b) Sense of Senate.–It is the sense of the Senate–

(1) to reaffirm its support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, including General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq;

(2) to strongly condemn any effort to attack the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces; and

(3) to specifically repudiate the unwarranted personal attack on General Petraeus by the liberal activist group Moveon.org.

On his radio show yesterday, right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh attacked the “honor and integrity” of some members of the Armed Forces. Limbaugh attacked troops who hold a different viewpoint than his own as “phony soldiers.” Iraq war vet Jon Soltz writes that Limbaugh’s comments are directed at “the majority of troops on the ground in Iraq” because they “do not back the President’s failed policy.”

For all the Senators who rushed to make political hay over an empty resolution, the spotlight is on them. Will they now enforce their “sense of the Senate” and condemn Rush Limbaugh?

...and that we wouldnt even have to mention it to them...

...my guess is they will let it slide, and maybe make a "statement" that no one but DUers will see.

I hope to be 100% incorrect- time will tell.

whether you agree or not. You see I have watched my husband's patriotism be questioned far to much these last seven years, and I am sick of the right demeaning a soldier, a veteran, a citizen just because they don't walk lock step with this administration. It's about time we as citizens change that scenario around and stop the hate once and for all. EOM.

62. My Letter To AFR
Here is the text of te feedback form I just sent to AFR:

I am a veteran of the US Army. I am the son of a Vietnam Era Navy aircraft mechanic. I am the grand son of a WWII Army captain on one side and a WWII Navy Seaman on the other. I respect and honor the sacrifices of my fellow soldiers who are serving now and I am proud of the tradition of honor passed down to me by my grandfathers who served in the war that saved the planet from Nazis and Fascism, and my father who served voluntarily in a very unpopular time.

We have a duty to make sure that anything that dishonors our men and women in the field is not passed onto them while in combat, especially on AFR.

To that end I hope that you seriously re-examine your decision to carry the Rush Limbaugh Radio show from the EIB network. Mr. Limbaugh seriously insulted all of our fighting men and women when he called soldiers (even generals presumably) who have expressed their disagreement with Iraq policy (as some have done even while continuing to do there duty to the country and their buddies) by calling these brave men and women "phonies." It takes courage to volunteer to go into harms way. It takes equally as much courage to serve honorably, and then publicly disagree with the policy of Commander-in-Chief, and continue to do ones duty. These are not the actions of phonies. It is appalling that a man who never served, and in fact took a deferment for dubious medical reasons (a cyst? Are you kidding me?) when he was called to serve.

Rush Limbaugh is a coward who sits in an air conditioned studio while spewing hate at our soldiers and advocating domestic policies that make a mockery of the constitution the armed forces are sworn to defend. Please make sure his hate is no longer disseminated on your air waves.

Sincerely,

Douglas S. Williams

I also included my address and phone number. I don't want anyone who reads that at AFR to be able to dismiss my sentiments as being from a keyboard warrior, unwilling to stand up and be counted. The only reason I cut it from my post here is, I know some creepy little freeper would start harassing me and I don't feel like stomping a mud hole in anyone's ass. I gave up on violence a long time ago, but the old instincts are still there and I am a pragmatist. :-)

71. Rush has hosted the president and vice president...he should have watched his mouth.
Rush has always been a joke but his so called credibility has been established by Bush and Cheney making appearances on his show. That said. Rush should have watched his mouth...he can't say something worse than nappy headed hos and expect that he would not have to pay some consequences. How much more insulting could he be to the military than calling the ones who don't agree with him "phony soldiers". If the military and the GOP let him get away with these comments then they have no right ever again to condemn anything anyone says about the military publicly.
Where's the senate outrage now? AREN'T THE SENATE AND HOUSE DEMS WILLING TO INTRODUCE AN AMENDMENT TO CONDEMN RUSH LIMBAUGH LIKE THE REPUBLICANS DID TO CONDEMN MOVE ON? ARE THEY NOT WILLING TO STOOP TO THE SAME LEVEL AND CONDEMN A FAR RIGHT ORGANIZATION FOR INSULTING OUR MEN IN UNIFORM IN ACTIVE DUTY??

IF NOT, THEN STOP JOINING WITH REPUBLICANS WHEN THEY STOOP TO SUCH RIDICULOUS LEVELS. Half the dems in the senate voted with republicans on this ridiculous action which was a distraction and a waste of time. To an optimist that means the senate is half fool rather than half ignorant.
The GOP's hypocrisy is demonstrated by their complete silence about the Rush insult proving they don't care about attacking or smearing or insulting men in our military unless it gains them some political points. It's not the business of the congress to be involved in collectively condemning ads and talk shows for their comments. It's the senate and the house that should be condemned for participating in such wasteful distractions just to score political points.

First, thanks for your input. AFN has an obligation, backed by Congressional mandate, to provide our audience access to the same variety and diversity of programming that they would enjoy if they were back in the States. Because political talk radio is among the most popular stateside radio formats, AFN currently offers four political radio talk shows on our AFN|radio schedule: Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity represent the conservative viewpoint and Ed Schultz and Alan Colmes represent the liberal viewpoint. We make our choices based on popularity with the American audience and we don't censor programs. Please remember that AFN strives to provide its overseas audience with a choice and lets them decide for themselves what they want to see and hear. There is no requirement for our audience to listen to anything they personally disagree with. To review the balance we strive to achieve via the totality of our radio and TV schedules, please visit http://www.myafn.net. Again, thanks for your input, and for your service. The Conservative voice is the rabid RWers InSANITY and Limbaugh, but the Liberal voices are 2 conservative so-called Liberals. While Schultz isn't as bad as Colmes, he certainly isn't a Thom Hartmann or a Randi Rhodes.

95. My email statement to AFRN.FM's feedback page:
To the Operations Manager and Program Director:

As a veteran of active duty combat arms and the reserves, and also as a former broadcast specialist with an AFN affiliate in Germany, I am appalled that the draft-dodging likes of Rush Limbaugh has your airwaves to use as a forum to denegrate the service of our U.S. servicemen and women. One may agree or disagree with their politics, but they have a right to their own opinions of the progress of this "War on Terror" without some chair-bound, mouth-breathing, yellow chickenhawk like Limbaugh calling into question their patriotism or dedication to their mission.

I respectfully demand that you pull the Rush Limbaugh Show from your lineup and replace it with the voice of someone who has a modicum of credibility and who shows the proper respect due the members of our military community.

Sincerely,

111. Letter I sent to my sen (cornyn) yesterday

I have never had occasion to contact you regarding any issue or proposed legislation because, frankly, your views are so different from mine on almost every issue that I felt it would not be an efficient use of my time. However, recently an issue has presented itself on which I am sure we can agree.

As a patriotic American and father in law to a soldier in the United States Army, I was disgusted at the comment made by right wing radio personality Rush Limbaugh calling many of our troops “phony soldiers.” After all, these troops were just excercising a right that they have agreed to die for, if necessary.

In light of your recent resolution regarding General Petraeus, I am sure that you agree with me that Limbaugh’s statement cannot stand. After all, this was an insult to the men and women who actually do the fighting and dying in Iraq. I know that I can count on you as my senator to do the right thing (pardon the pun) and offer a resolution to censure Mr. Limbaugh and to have his insulting program removed from Armed Services Radio.

Please let me know when you will be offering this resolution and what action you will take to have Limbaugh’s program removed from Armed Services Radio. In the alternative, please inform me why you will not take these necessary steps to preserve the dignity and honor of our military.

Rush will probably blame the troops for losing the war in Iraq the same way he blamed the troops for losing the Vietnam war for the last 20 years.

This is what happens to cheerleaders like Rush when their team can't win the big game.
They blame the players.

114. For what its worth.
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 09:41 PM by DiktatrW
I sent this.

Mr Limbaugh has recently called a significant portion of our armed forces "Phony Soldiers".

It is my understanding that he is broadcast regularly on the only English speaking media our overseas personnel receive daily.

As a former Marine who served overseas in two West Pac tours of duty, I can only say that I find this situation quite untenable.

I have known that for some time our troops have had limited access to the news of the day, having served through your blackouts of the entire evening news at times in the barracks of Iwakuni Japan when it was for some reason deemed necessary.

The simple fact that our Armed Forces radio network has for years allowed this undoubtedly right wing extremist to have access to the young minds of our troops in a restricted environment, without any counterbalance from sane, rationale, opposition gives me little hope that any action will be taken to stop his abuse of American soldiers who digress from the disjointed agenda he espouses.

Grow a pair for the the soldiers sake and dump this piece of constipated matter.

I did my four in the corps, and you guys were my life line to America. If serving up this anal cyst to our troops in their greatest time of need is the best you can do, then I regret the fact that my tax dollars go to pay your salary, and may history forget you were our brethren.

115. He is brain dead for some time now and some say needs to be taken off life support all together
He has reached that stage in the "brain dead" cycle that is called by researchers in psychiatry "blowviating windmills" and is further accentuated by his oral complex of sucking on huge cigars. Senator (I won't mention his name) who is also a doctor has listened to the Air America and Armed services network broadcasts and has proclaimed that Rushes brain is still rattling and pronounced him to be alive with a loud "its alive, its alive" and immediately sent guards and camera crews to guard the plug that is said to keep him in his blowviating windmill, vegetative state.
