Update at 12:12 p.m. ET: USA TODAY's David Jackson reports that the president had another grammatical hiccup today - at an education event, no less.

Urging Congress to re-authorize the No Child Left Behind act, Bush touted a recent report on improved test scores by saying: "As yesterday's positive Report Card shows, CHILDRENS do learn when standards are high and results are measured."

Bush spoke at a made-for-media event at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, attended by Mayor Mike Bloomberg, School Chancellor Joel Klein, and about 20 kids from a local public school.

The comment echoed the anti-Bush book entitled Is Our Children Learning?, written by Democratic consultant Paul Begala. But beyond reporters' tape recorders, the flub may not be captured for posterity. The official White House transcript reads: "As yesterday's positive Report Card shows, children do learn when standards are high and results are measured."
