Fox News lashed out at media criticism of O'Reilly's racially charged comments
Fox News lashed out at media criticism of O'Reilly's racially charged comments

During the September 25 edition of CNN Newsroom, co-host Don Lemon and anchor Rick Sanchez discussed the recent statement by Fox News host Bill O'Reilly that he was surprised "there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City ... even though run by blacks." Sanchez stated that "every African-American that I've talked to since this -- and my God, have I gotten a bevy of phone calls on this, inside and outside the business -- people are actually offended. They ... call this a subtle type of racism. It's not the 'hit you over the head with a hammer' type; it's the 'velvet glove' type." He then said that, during a September 24 phone conversation, O'Reilly "didn't want any part of it" and "was screaming the entire conversation," adding, "He was not happy with me." As Media Matters for America noted, on the September 24 edition of CNN's Out in the Open, Sanchez also recounted his "animated" conversation with O'Reilly, saying that O'Reilly denied any "racial intent" in his comments and described the story as "a hatchet job by Media Matters."

Later in the September 25 segment, Lemon said: "Rick, we got a statement from Fox News, and here's what it says: 'This is nothing more than left-wing outlets stirring up false racism accusations for ratings. It's sad.' " According to the on-screen graphic, the statement was from Bill Shine, Fox News' senior vice president of programming.

From the 2 p.m. ET hour of the September 25 edition of CNN Newsroom:

4. Oh, see it's ok because the idiot bigot didn't INTEND to be racist.
See, it doesn't count if it just happens. AArrgghh. The whole point is that this IS how he sees the world, and how he expects the rest of us see it. He thought he was enlightening us all with his grand discovery that "black" restaurants aren't scary and different than ordinary white restaurants. This guy is almost as insulated as bushler. I sure hope this doesn't just go away.

7. It's not like he called anyone a nappy headed ho
Wait, can someone explain to me how Billo's behavior is quantitatively different from Imus? Billo can be as racist as he wants to be; he just isn't entitled to the public airwaves and sinecure. Fire him, Fox. It's the "right" thing to do, and you know it.

10. He's popular because...
... every single argument he makes contains a confirmation bias. He simply reiterates what the vast majority of his listeners already believe, then he badgers and bullies his detractors to the point they can no longer concentrate and fail to provide evidence against his claims. So, people love O'Reilly because he "confirms" what they already believe.

I can't feel anger towards him anymore, he really doesn't know better. Untreated mental illness is tragic.

13. How can it be "left wing" stirring it up..
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 12:22 AM by zidzi
if it's Blacks who were talking to Rick Sanchez and calling it a form of racism?

I think it shows how stupid he is for sure..."like wow, all this decorum in a restaurant in Harlem"..I guess it is racism.

14. Correction - O'Lielly thinks Media Matters is FAR left wing
And that they are out to get him. A little paranoid Bill? Try telling the truth and they won't touch you. Kind of like Malmady (hope I spelled that right, I must be hooked on phonics too)

15. Rick Sanchez is Far Left Wing?
I hardly think so. I watch him quite a bit & have not figured out what his political leanings are. I like him because he actually seems "fair and balanced" unlike Fox Noise. Billo is a bigoted loon.

17. I didn't say that he is far left wing, I said that Billo says it is far left wing
Of course they aren't, I agree that seem to be fair and balanced. I meant it as a joke.
